Staff Profile

Suellen James

My name is Suellen and I have just begun working at Scoresby Secondary College in the Student Services team as the Adolescent Health Nurse. I am thrilled to join the college community to provide wellbeing support to students and design a new re-engagement program.

I grew up in Upwey and spent many Saturday mornings roller skating at Caribbean Rollerama and doing gymnastics at Carrington Park before moving to Drouin. I rode my pony and worked at Gumbuya Park while I finished high school.

After completing a Diploma of Interior Design at Holmesglen, I switched to studying nursing and health promotion at Deakin University. My first nursing job was at Epworth Eastern Hospital where I worked for seven years. During this time, I also worked part-time for three years in a secondary school at Mount Waverley Secondary College.

For my next challenge, I got a job at the Royal Children’s Hospital as an adolescent forensic health nurse. I worked in the primary care team with pediatricians and psychiatrists at the Youth Justice Centre in Parkville providing healthcare to young offenders, many of who had trauma backgrounds.

For the last eight years I have been working in secondary schools as a member of the Health, Wellbeing and Inclusion Workforce for the Department of Education and Training providing wellbeing support to students and delivering health promotion activities.

I am really looking forward to getting to know everyone at Scoresby Secondary College in the coming months and helping to improve the physical and mental health of students.
