From the Deputy Principal Wellbeing

One of the things I have done this past week is take time to see our students at play.  When a school is in remote learning it is quiet and lacks the vibrancy of students. It’s been lovely to see so many students engaging with others and happy.  The buzz of a ‘normal’ school day and week have been appreciated by all in our school community this past week.  While we are all very happy to be at school, we are aware that this could change and change suddenly. Our staff and our students have been flexible and agile in dealing with the quick turnaround between face to face and remote learning experiences.

In leadership, we are grateful for this adaptability in both our staff and students. We understand that for each experience of remote learning there is a set of challenges in each home to contend with. I’d like to thank all of you, knowing how tricky it can be to change at a moment’s notice. I want to reassure you also that we are doing our best to respond to a change in learning environments as quickly as possible in order to avoid disruption.  I am confident that we can continue to work together to meet the challenges of these uncertain times.

Last weekend our Church celebrated the feast of the Assumption.  This feast marks the oldest exclusive Marion celebration in the liturgical calendar dating from the 430s.  Our Catholic tradition recognises the importance of Mary as being the mother of Christ.  When we reflect on the person of Mary, we realise just how relevant she is for us today. A model of  impeccable strength and commitment in the face of challenges both known and unknown to her.  Our challenges today are different, but we can certainly be guided by the example of Mary in our own thoughts and actions.

One of the learnings of The Resilience Project, which our school is participating in, is to take the time to reflect on what we are grateful for.  This past week, our students participated in athletics and other sporting events which last year were cancelled.  Our staff and students have continued with preparations for the College Production.  Although the format is different from other years, we are responding to the challenges of restrictions and continuing to be flexible and agile and provide opportunities for our students to thrive as best we can.  For this we can be grateful.

In our Community Wellbeing section of the newsletter today you will see information regarding the new uniform.  Please be aware of the changeover which will occur in Term 4.  It is important that you communicate any concerns regarding accessing the new uniform to your child’s TA.

Lastly, please enjoy the upcoming weekend. I hope you have the opportunity to share some time with your family whilst enjoying the changing weather.
