Game Time

Three Men’s Morris Game

This game may have a terrible name, but it is SO much better than Noughts and Crosses and just as easy to play!

It is a game for 2 players of any age.

Player A (the younger player) needs 3 counters in one colour.

Player B needs 3 counters in another colour.

The playing board consists of 4 squares joined together, with a dot where one line meets another (9 dots in total). The winner is the first player to get 3 counters in a line.

Player A goes first. They place one of their counters on any dot. Then Player B does the same. Players take turns placing their counters on vacant dots until all counters are placed. If there is no winner so far, the game continues with each player taking turns to move one counter along a line to a vacant dot. Keep playing until one player gets 3 counters in a line.

Here are examples of 2 types of game board you might draw, though there are many more. Have fun! You’ll never feel the urge to play Noughts and Crosses again!

Many Level 3 students have engaged with this game during remote and flexible learning and loved the challenge of ‘beating’ their parents!

Parent/Student Problem Solving

Use the 5 clues to crack the code and for these two problems (the second one is more challenging).  Answers will be revealed in the next newsletter.

Number Wonder

Below are some photos from Level 1 who have been engaging in a special Number Wonder Project. They have been noticing Mathematics in a ‘real world context’, finding cylinders and 3D shapes in their environment.
