Principal's Report

Flexible. Resilient. Positive. 2021

From Mrs Barr's Desk

Happy Principal's Day - Friday 6th August

Thank you to students, staff and families from the principal class at Rangeview for your kind messages and flowers. Other celebrations were planned by staff but as we all know, lockdown happened.

I feel very fortunate to be the principal of our great school and to work closely with our two Assistant Principals Kate McLeod and Marika Ferguson. Both talented leaders who contribute to the growth of our school and strive to be the best we can be in the most challenging times.

Remote Learning Continues

I can hear the groan from everyone and that includes me. However, I attended a recent principal conference and an eminent educator Professor Hattie's key message was that the rigorous and extensive research shows that learning continued through 2020 and that there has been little impact on student outcomes.

Hattie does not disregard the importance of wellbeing and engagement at all. We recognise that individuals are impacted in different ways and the school's focus, when we are all on site, is catch up.

So there is hope that our students will get through this. And the added benefit of any shared adversary, is that we can do this together (while maintaining physical distancing and wearing a mask of course).

It is also critical as adults that our behaviour impacts on our children. The challenge is be positive and resilient - so be kind to yourselves, keep safe and reach out if you need help.

Playgrounds and Basketball Courts are closed to the community until further notice.

Planning for the Future- Community Feedback for the Master Plan Concept

Please follow the link for the quick survey for feedback about the master plan concept. All the information can be found in our school website under the tab Planning for the Future.

Grade 5/6 Production Rehearsals

The show must go on! This saying could not be more appropriate than in 2021. We are planning for the production gala nights in the last week of this term. The production team is meeting this week to how best manage the time that our students have for the long awaited opportunity to perform. So fingers and toes crossed that this can happen.

Our School Review - Validation Day (remotely) 26th August

Our School Council on Wednesday evening will be reviewing the school review documents before the Validation Day on Thursday 26th August. Meg Hubbard and the leadership team have reviewed the community, student and staff padlets. This evidence and other data  on learning, wellbeing and engagement will be included in this review day.

Inclusive Schools Grant - Oval Banks

We have had a site visit by the architects for the planned construction works  on the oval banks near Verdale Close. The plan submitted with the grant application will be reviewed and a scope of works developed. The school has to approve the design and proposed scope of works. A letter will be distributed to neighbours in the near future.

I believe the works may begin by the end of the year.

Library Upgrade

Earlier this year, the library had a makeover with new carpet, additional wall for space, rearrangement of the bookshelves to open up the space and fresh painting for the fresh new look.

New tables have been ordered and Ryan Evans is adding signage for the returns and borrowing benches. More work is happening with signage so watch this space.

Community Letter

A community letter was emailed to families last week outlining a few small pieces of asbestos material were found near the oval. As outlined in this letter, I reassure all families that the site is safe and there will be follow up in the future. The VSBA (Victorian Schools Building Authority) are the governing body in such matters and have been overseeing the investigation.
