Nelson Mandela Youth Leadership Summit

 Resilience, Justice & Youth Development

On Friday 10th September some of our students took part in the Nelson Mandela Youth Leadership Summit. The summit’s theme(s) are based on Nelson Mandela’s legacy wrapped up for enhancing empowerments, personal growth, social justice, regional development, and global engagements.

The topics are chosen to act as participants’ tools especially for youth to assist them in growing into key players and leaders, in addressing immediate and most pressing challenges. Our students and other relevant people are brought together, encouraged, and tipped to discuss and learn the possibilities, strategies tools and resources to:

  • decrease the risk of young people further developing behaviour that lead to self-harm
  • enhance young people’s inspiration, resilience and connections to school, family, peers and/or the community
  • promote social cohesion, facilitate collaborative structures, and improve linkages between schools/education sector, different level of governments and relevant youth and community services to support multiculturalism and young people displaying ‘at risk’ behaviour.

We are very proud that our students took part and became active participants amongst ninety others on screen from all over Australia. They asked questions and demonstrated great leadership. A common theme from the summit was to be a leader you need to 'do' and get involved!

Some Nelson Mandela quotes delivered by the US Consul General  Kathleen Lively:

If you want to make peace with your enemy, you have to work with your enemy.

Then he becomes your partner”

“Do not judge me by my successes, judge me by how many times I fell down and got back up again.”

“It always seems impossible until it's done.”
