Welcome to Term 4

Kindergarten welcomes Miss Hunt this term for four weeks! Miss Hunt joins us for her second teaching practicum. She has already taught us a very important Fundamental Movement Skill in PE, whereby we learnt how to throw and catch. It was a joy to watch the students experience success as they threw and caught bean bags and balls.

Learning at School

In English this week, the sounds we are learning are ‘qu’ and ‘ee’.  We know that when we see a ‘q’, we need a ‘u’. For reading we are investigating the storybook ‘The Nowhere Box’ by Sam Zuppardi. In this story, Kindy understand that it is a story about a little boy’s imagination. Some Kindy’s also have a connection to this story, especially students that long for a quiet place away from their younger siblings.

In Maths, Kindy have been learning how to estimate. We learnt that estimating is finding a number that is close enough to the right answer. We had a lot of fun grabbing a handful of cubes and guessing how many in the group. This week we are learning number combinations that make 10. We call them ‘friends of 10’. Ask your child two numbers that make 10. Kindy are very clever!

In History this term, Kindy will be investigating the different structures of families today, families in the past and families from different places. This week we have learnt how our families are different and how they are the same.

For Creative Arts and Performing Arts, Kindy are using the story ‘Possum Magic’ by Mem Fox to explore various Drama skills. They will participate in activities involving mime, innovation, depictions and hot seats. In PDH, students will identify signs that may indicate they are in a potentially unsafe situation. They will develop their knowledge of strategies they can use to promote their safety and wellbeing.

In Religion, Kindy are learning about God's creation and ways that we can take care of it. We have learnt about God's creation in the sky and the water. Kindy have written a Psalm of praise thanking God for the many wonderful things that God created in the sky.

God of creation,

how great your name throughout the earth!

We look up at your heavens, made by your fingers,

at the moon and stars, the birds in the air,

the rainbows and the clouds, the sunrise and the sunset,

the rain and the sun, the fog in the morning,

the hail and the thunderstorms, the planets.

Antiphon: God of creation,

how great your name throughout the earth!
