From the Principal...

Mrs Alanna McRae

Welcome Back!

We welcome back all our school community for our final term of 2020! We look forward to an exciting final term where all learning is onsite!

Transition

Our first transition class for students commencing Kindergarten in 2021 will be on Monday 26th October. We welcome the new families to our school and look forward to all our new students starting next year.

Transition this year is being run by Mrs Emma Johnson. Mrs Johnson is a familiar face to our St Mary's community as she taught Kindergarten in 2019 before taking maternity leave for the first three terms of this year. We welcome Mrs Johnson back and look forward to seeing our Transition children next Monday and Tuesday.

COVID Update

At the end of last term we had an update of COVID restrictions for schools for Term 4. Please read the following points so you are familiar with the restrictions that are currently in place:

  • keep your child at home if they are showing signs of being unwell;
  • if children or staff are absent due to cold and flu-like symptoms, they must have a COVID test and the school must sight the negative result before they can return to school;
  • singing is limited to 5 people;
  • parents/carers must stay outside the school gate for both drop-off and pick up times;
  • parents need to ensure that they are socially distanced when waiting for their child at pick ups and avoid congregating in these areas;
  • students are encouraged to wash their hands and sanitise them regularly;
  • there are to be no school-based activities that involve a large gathering of adults. These include parent/community gatherings such as parent functions, working bees, fundraisers, school barbecues, large parent information evenings, and large on-site cultural events;
  • no parent or carer attendance at assemblies and other school events;
  • uniform pool will continue to be by appointment through the office.

At present the Year 6 end of year assembly and graduation celebrations are allowed, however they are limited to staff and students. At present we also cannot go ahead with our end of year Presentation Assembly but this may be able to be held in a different format if restrictions change later in the term. We have already started to look at ways of changing the things we do at the end of the year so that students don't miss out and we can still give access to parents eg through digital formats.
