Term 3 Week 7

The Prep students have continued to enjoy fairytales. This week we have been looking at ‘Little Red Riding Hood’ using props to retell the story and comparing different versions of the story. Students have also been using different strategies to solve tricky words when reading their books such as using the picture and sounding out words.

In writing, students have had the opportunity to write about a special memory and memento. It is wonderful to see the work they are producing independently and the effort they are applying to include adjectives and detail to their writing.

The Prep students also enjoyed using the characters and setting they made to create and tell a story. Students are now working on planning and writing their own short stories using their knowledge of story elements.

In numeracy, we solved addition word problems using different strategies and this week we have started work on subtraction, having fun playing skittles to practise taking away an amount from 10 and working out how many are left.

We have continued to use our knowledge of coding to make an algorithm using arrows to move an object around a grid to get to a pot of gold and we also measured the length of objects using our hand span as an informal measuring unit.

We have been learning about looking after ourselves by keeping clean and on Friday we will learn about allergies and know how to keep our bodies fit and healthy.

We continue to appreciate and thank our wonderful families who are doing such a great job encouraging and supporting our fabulous students in their learning. The effort applied and work produced is awesome!

Have a great week of learning.
