SCHOLARSHIPS

In 2017 the college introduced a scholarship program to encourage and support the continued education of dedicated, hard-working students.  This has been seen as a great success, and it is nice to be able to recognise and support these hard-working students in this manner.

These scholarships involve a two-part payment totalling $1500 during the students Year 11 year at St Joseph’s College.  We again congratulate and award the 2020 Year 11 Scholarship recipients with their second payment of $750.  We look forward to seeing you continue your progress in your pursuit of excellence over the remainder of this year and next year.

Year 11 Founding Sisters of Mercy Scholarships

I would like to take this opportunity to remind families that applications are now open for the 2021 St Joseph’s College internal scholarships.  To encourage excellence and to acknowledge our diverse student population, the college is excited to offer a number of scholarship opportunities to our students in Years 11 and 12, to recognise and reward the students for their achievements.

As per previous years, we are offering the ‘Year 11 Founding Sisters of Mercy Scholarships’.  The college presents these scholarships annually to Year 10 students who respect and display our Mercy Core Values, and who have shown excellence both in their academic and personal school life.  The college will offer up to nine internal scholarships of $1,500 to Year 10 students transitioning into Year 11 at the college.

Applications  for the ‘Year 11 Founding Sisters of Mercy Scholarships’ and also the Senior VCAL student for the ‘VCAL Excellence Scholarship’ are now open and close on Monday October 5.

Further information in regard to all scholarships on offer and the selection criteria can be viewed in our new 2021 St Joseph’s College Scholarships booklet, available on the college website and can also be accessed via the Student and PAM Hub in SIMON.

Other scholarships

The college has introduced the ‘Mercy Academic Internal Scholarships’ which are offered on the basis of academic merit to students continuing Years 11 and 12 at the college in 2021 and 2022.  These scholarships have a tenure of two years.  The scholarships are for the remission of 50% of the school fee each year of the scholarship. These scholarships are offered to a limited number of Year 10 students ranked in the top 5% of the Year 10 cohort.

Continuing from previous traditions, the ‘Postgraduate Year 12 Award Scholarships’ will be awarded to successful graduating students of 2020.

I would also like to acknowledge the Term 3 Academic Award winners.  For this term we acknowledged those students who have shown the most improvement rather than those who have achieved at the highest level.  Ten students at each year level will be recognised at house meetings for showing the most improvement in their grades from Semester 1 to Term 3.  Congratulations to the following students:

REPORTS

Interim reports will be made available on Friday September 18.

To access these reports you will need to go to the college website and go to Login > SIMON/PAM > and enter your username and password.  If you have lost your login details or cannot remember your login details you can call reception and they can organise for your login details to be reset.  Once you have logged in go to your child’s profile by clicking on their name or photo, then click on the student assessment tab and that will give you access to all completed reports for the year for your child.  The reports are also accessible for students through their normal SIMON profile.

PARENT STUDENT TEACHER CONFERENCES

Parent student teacher conferences will occur on Tuesday October 13 from 4.00pm to 7.00pm.  Given current uncertainty around what will and what will not be permitted in terms of meetings we will organise these as virtual conferences.  More information about making bookings for these conferences will be distributed via skoolbag during the last week of term.

I know this term has at times been difficult, but I am constantly impressed with the resilience shown by students and the commitment of our staff to get through this and maintain good learning outcomes.

I would like to thank students and teachers alike for the way they have gone about learning this term and we look forward to week two of Term 4 when we should be able to operate in a more “normal” learning environment.

In the meantime, as we approach the end of Term 3, I trust that students will finish off the term strongly and then enjoy the holidays that are rapidly approaching.
