Welcome back!

COOPERATIVE LEARNING

A huge welcome to our students!

It is GREAT to have you back!

With the much awaited return of our students to face to face learning we are very excited to launch back into Cooperative Learning with our classes.

This week the classes have been setting up their table teams and providing engaging opportunities for students to connect using class building and team building activities.

Students work cooperatively in table teams to support each other with their learning, build new friendships and get to know each other in a supportive environment.

These teams change every 5 weeks to encourage all students within the class to get to know each other.

Below are some examples of Team building and Class building activities that some classes may be using.

Foundation 2021

The Foundation students of 2021 have joined CSPS on Seesaw and have been introducing themselves to us with drawings of their families, Father's Day selfies as well as taking part in our Footy Day activities last term. A new optional activity is uploaded each week for our newest CSPS recruits to join in with. If your child is enrolled for F2021 and you have not yet gained access to Seesaw, please help them jump on so we can meet them. Please email Elaine Doughty (elained@cranbournesouth.vic.edu.au) if you require login details.

YEAR 3 AND 4 ACMI EXCURSION

The Middle School Guided Inquiry Unit for Term 4 is 'Frame by Frame." As an introduction to this unit the students attended a virtual excursion to the Australian Centre for Moving Images (ACMI) in Federation Square. The students were introduced to animation through the ages and were asked to write a recount of the day. Here are some examples:

ACMI Excursion

Stop! Mrs Goodwin almost missed the bus because she was not on the kids name list.

She just made it while me and Caiden were piffing popcorn at people and laughing. Lachlan tried to tell us off but he didn't know if it was us or the person behind us.

It was a long ride on the bus so we sang some songs, Mrs Goodwin's voice was terrible and Mrs Halket sounded like a chipmunk! Luckily my singing voice is awesome compared to everyone else!!

We finally arrived at the ACMI.

We got out off the bus and Gary took us for a tour guide around.

I learnt that there are 15 pictures in 1 second of a movie,  I also learnt that you can make an animation out of anything.

We watched some animation movies and I found it very interesting that animation has been around for over a hundred years.

We did so much walking on this excursion that my feet got super sore, we walked around the ACMI for over an hour.

Ahhh finally we sat down to have a break for lunch, I was starving! It felt good to give my feet a rest.

Apart from having sore feet and having to listen to my teachers sing on the bus, I had a great time.

Awwwwwww! I really liked that virtual excursion. I didn’t want it to end, I was learning new things. I  have done an excursion before at school but not virtual.

I learnt many different ways to make animations like  computers, stop motion animation and hand painting or drawing. I almost forgot to tell you the flip book.

I am pretty sure that everyone was there. And I am pretty sure they LOVED IT!!!

On Wednesday October 7th 4a went on a virtual excursions to learning how animation and movies are made.

I learnt many new things including the use of step motion. Stop motion is a lot of still photos on a screen and when it is all put together it makes the effect of movement.

One thing that I already know but it was still interesting to watch was how people use flip books. Flip books are of photos in a book and when it is flipped through it quickly makes a movement.

I found it very exciting that movies were being created back in 1919. These movies were very different and were many different drawings on a blackboard drawn over and over. I am very interested to learn more about how people first learnt to draw so well to create cartoons.

Animation takes many hours and creative talented people to make one short movie. Animation makes movies more interesting by adding special effects.

On Wednesday the 7th October we had a virtual excursion to the ACMI - Australian Centre of Moving Images. The one thing I learnt was stop-animation can be made out of anything you like. The one thing that I already know was that flipbooks are animation.

I found surprising that ‘Shaun the Sheep’ is stop animation because is was one of my favorite TV shows when I was little. I would like to learn more about stop animation.

I can’t wait to learn more about animation when we get back to school because I find it really interesting.

On Wednesday 7th October we did a virtual excursion learning about animation. There are different types of animation that was interesting.

You can have animation that is drawn by hand, by computer and stop-motion animation. I was surprised to learn that animation has been around for more than 100 years. Computer animation is very popular now. Animation takes some time to create one animation.

I loved learning about animation. There are more things I would like to learn about animation.
