Connor's Run 2020

This year, with Covid-19 seriously throwing things out of balance, Connor’s Run couldn’t run as per usual. So this year, the people of at the Robert Connor Dawes Foundation came up with an alternative Connor’s run idea. Connor’s Run 2020 is about celebrating your strengths, and discovering how awesome you are. MGC has a school team and it would be awesome if you could join us!!

Youth in Philanthropy Program

The Youth in Philanthropy program is a fantastic program run by the Lord Mayor’s Charitable Foundation, that give teens the responsibility to make choices to provide for the greater community. We were given $10,000 to split between 3 different charities according to whom we would like to support. This was a difficult task as we felt all the charities should get the money. We met up with the charities virtually and spoke with inspiring young individuals to discuss about the amazing work they are doing. We met with ‘Food Bank Australia’ who has been very helpful in the midst of the COVID crisis and helping during bushfire relief. Even before the pandemic, they are always trying to make sure that people get a meal, we really value their efforts and agreed it essential to give them $4,000. We also met with the ‘Australian Youth Climate Coalition’ who are doing an amazing job in educating young individuals on a broad range of environmental issues such as climate change as well as the importance of the indigenous community and the land we meet on. We decided to give them $3,500. Lastly, we met with the ‘Marine Mammal Foundation’ who are giving young marine enthusiast the chance to learn more about marine life and we gave this charity $2,500.

This was an incredible experience that I am very grateful to be part of, and I would definitely encourage future Year 10’s to join this program in 2021!
