Junior School News

Online Learning takes off!

Online Learning launched on Monday 30 March across the College. The Junior School Staff and students have all been working extremely hard to navigate these new ways of teaching and learning.

At St Gregory’s we aim to create “internationally minded people”. This unprecedented way of educating is a perfect example of why we need to build those Learner Profiles in our young people (and ourselves).

We are part of a global family now, all learning to be open-minded communicators who are caring and well-balanced. Overnight we are learning to become knowledgeable thinkers and inquirers. Our new online way of teaching and learning is forcing us to become risk-takers and constantly reflective of what is and is not working.

There is a great sense of community amongst the students, parents and staff. We are all in this together and together we will get through if we are all in.

To our St Gregory's Junior School community,

This Sunday 5 April is Palm Sunday (Mt 26:14-27:66), the final Sunday of Lent, the beginning of Holy Week, and it commemorates the triumphant arrival of Christ in Jerusalem, days before he was crucified.

Jesus’ challenge was to offer himself out of love, duty and service, without being resentful. He was asked to give up his life and freedom to save us. This is our challenge each day; to give our love and service to family, friends and neighbours, freely without resentment.

We ask God to bless all the doctors, nurses, health care workers and their support staff for all that they are doing during this health crisis.

The attached prayer below is one in which I encourage all to say individually or as a family, once a day as we head into Easter.

I wish you all a safe and Happy Easter after this coming week. It will certainly be different from every other Easter in the past years, but this situation does force us to stop and reflect on what is important in life.

Take the time to make contact with relatives and friends and ensure they are okay. Isolation can be lonely so contact someone who you know might be by themselves. A friendly voice can make all the difference.

May the joy of the Risen Lord be with us all at Easter and may we come out of this safe and well.

God bless you all abundantly. Happy Easter!

Year 4 - Convict Studies

Year 4 have been learning about Child Convicts. During class, we made our own child convict dolls - this was great when we had to describe the appearance of a convict, make clothes from fabric and make it look authentic by rubbing dirt on the convict doll.

Our learning has continued in our online learning this week. Students worked hard on many tasks including; researching a child convict and investigating an explorer. They have created some outstanding fact files!
