October: Pope Francis' Extraordinary Month of Mission

Pope Francis has declared October  'An extraordinary Month of Mission.' This month Pope Francis asks us to consider the work of missionaries all over the world. Missionaries strive to spread the word of God and model their lives on that of Jesus Christ.  As missionaries go about their work we remember them through this prayer.

Heavenly Father,

when your only begotten Son Jesus Christ rose from the dead,

he commissioned his followers to “go and make disciples of all nations”

and you remind us that through our Baptism we are made sharers in the mission of the Church.

Empower us by the gifts of the Holy Spirit to be courageous and zealous

in bearing witness to the Gospel,

so that the mission entrusted to the Church, which is still very far from completion,

may find new and efficacious expressions that bring life and light to the world.

Help us make it possible for all peoples to experience the saving love

and mercy of Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you

in the unity of the Holy Spirit, One God, forever and ever.

Amen.

World Teachers' Day

On Monday we celebrated World Teachers' Day with a Thanksgiving Prayer service. The students had the opportunity to share their thoughts about their teachers with the whole community -

' Mrs Brand is great because she tells jokes, is kind and smiles a lot.'

' Miss L is great because she is kind and reads great stories.'

' Mrs Perkins always makes me happy when I am at school.'

' Mrs Pallotta always help us with our learning.'

' Mrs McLean is great because she always has time to help us.'

' Mrs. Lacey is great because she is a very confident teacher.'

Diwali

Sunday marks the Festival of Diwali. The festival is an important feast day for many of the families in our school community.

Diwali is the five-day festival of lights, celebrated by millions of Hindus, Sikhs and Jains across the world. The festival, which coincides with the Hindu New Year, celebrates new beginnings and the triumph of good over evil and light over darkness. During the celebrations millions of people attend firework displays, attend prayer services and attend celebratory family gatherings.

We wish our families who are celebrating Diwali a very joyous time.
