Duke of Edinburgh: Bronze Award

At assembly on Monday we also recognised students who have achieved the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award.  Students participating in the award set their own goals and structure the activities involved in achieving the award in four categories: voluntary service, physical recreation, skills and adventurous journey.  Students must commit to activities to satisfy each category for a minimum three month period and the journey must be two days and one night.  Congratulations to Jasmine Boyett, Lizzie Hodgkinson, Rachel Henderson and Ellie Slatter who have each achieved their Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award.

Service in action

We've seen such great examples of service and selflessness this week, in so many areas of the School.  I've been watching Senior School students partner with Junior School buddies, enjoying games and reading.  I've eaten brownies (well, someone has to test them, right?!) cooked by our Hunger Heroes group, who are preparing meals for members of our community and heard about exploits removing Sydney Wattle on and off campus. I've read about students collecting clothes for an op shop opportunity later in the year to raise funds; celebrated our MSWA swimmers raising funds and watched five of our students variously cut and shave their hair for the Leukaemia Foundation.  It is marvellous that we are seeing our students embody our school values, every day.

NAPLAN

Thank you to all students and teachers who have worked hard these past two weeks on completing NAPLAN testing.  It is a big undertaking and relies on students being responsible and organised to remember their laptop, bring along earphones and chargers, arrive to the testing rooms on time in order to give their best effort during testing.  This is a lot to remember in an already busy week.  Well done to all involved.

Care for others: stay home if you are sick

We have all done so well looking after one another over this past, tricky, twelve months; let's continue to do that.  If your child is unwell, please do not send them to school.  We look forward to welcoming sick students back when they are symptom free.  Nationally, health data is showing us that our preventive measures such as sanitising, physical distancing and staying home if we are sick is reducing illness at unprecedented rates. Let's keep up the great work we have done so far and care for others by keeping our sickness at home.
