Years 11 and 12 Semester One examinations
Our senior students begin their first semester examinations on Tuesday. This year the College has introduced a Study Day on Monday for students to best prepare themselves for the upcoming exams, both academically and with regards to their well-being.
Examinations will be held in the TMEC beginning at 9am and 1pm. The timetable can be located in the Documents tab of SEQTA will all students having received their personalised timetable. Students need to ensure they are punctual for their exams and bring their timetable with them. Frequently asked questions are also available in the Documents tab of SEQTA.
We wish all our senior student well with their preparation for examinations and look forward to celebrating their successes.

LifeLink Launch
On Thursday, 20 May, four students from Years 8 and 9, Evie Moody, Thomas Syminton, Thalia Kurniawan and Marco Zammuto, along with Religious Education teacher, Ms Craig, had the pleasure of attending the LifeLink Launch at Aranmore Catholic College. LifeLink provides the opportunity for students of John XXIII College, and other Catholic schools, to join together to show support for the many Church agencies, which reach out to provide practical care and direct assistance to thousands of people in need in the community. Archbishop Timothy Costelloe ran an inspiring presentation on the theme of 'discernment'. Students and staff from 27 Catholic schools within the Archdiocese of Perth were asked to consider 'How is God calling us to be a Christ-centred Church in Australia that is a joyful, hope-filled and servant community?'. The highlight of the day was working in discussion groups with students from other schools. The Archbishop and Dr Sayce then responded to feedback, ideas and suggestions that students provided.

2021 GRIP Leadership Conference
Despite the GRIP Leadership Perth Conference being postponed earlier this term due to lock-down, the smaller numbers attending certainly did not dampen the spirits of the facilitators and students who attended.
Thirty-five student leaders from Years 7-9 attended the 2021 Perth GRIP Leadership Conference at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre on Wednesday 19 May. GRIP Leadership is an independent organisation whose purpose is to train and develop young leaders in a fun and functional way with their core values at the forefront, 'generosity, responsibility, integrity and people'.
The day consisted of sessions which included topics such as Time to Lead, Time Management for Student Leaders, Taking Responsibility, Involving More Students in School Events, Creating Ideas, Improving Something You Feel is Impossible and Keeping Your Team Motivated.
Many thanks to all the Homeroom Leaders who conducted themselves in such a positive manner and to their respective Assistant Deputy Principals, Mr Haines (Year 7), Mr Owen (Year 8) and Mr McLaughlin (Year 9) who will continue to explore the role as a student leader with them during planned sessions for the remainder of the year.

Mock Trials
Round 2 of the 2021 Law Society of Western Australia Mock Trial Competition was held on Monday night at the Supreme Court. Our team went up against Scotch College - appearing for the Defendant in a Minor Civil Case Claim. Specifically, the plaintiff claimed that our client had failed to pay rent under a lodging contract.
There is a lot of preparation involved in the lead up to the trial, and I would like to take this opportunity to thank the students who, despite their busy schedules, enthusiastically attended lunchtime meetings.
Our Round 2 Team included:
- Barrister 1: Oscar Hegge
- Barrister 2: Skye MacMillan
- Solicitor: Benjamin Negus
- Witness 1: Rebecca Harsanyi
- Witness 2: Kady Wall
- Judges Associate: Lydia Davila
