Our School Counsellor

Ms Whitney Moe

Who am I?

Hi, my name in Ms Whitney Moe and I am the school counsellor at Granville East Public School.

I have been working at GEPS since 2017 but you may not have seen me around as I only work at the school on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

School counsellors have qualifications in teaching and psychology, and are eligible to be registered as a psychologist.

I love being part of the GEPS community - working with staff, parents and the children always brings a smile to my face.

How can the school counselling service help?

  • By providing confidential counselling and strategies to support children to better function in both learning and social contexts
  • By assessing a student, we can help teachers and parents understand the reasons behind a child’s difficulties and suggest strategies to support the child’s learning and well-being
  • By liaising with parents and external agencies we add to the school’s understanding of a child’s needs and offer more informed support
  • By providing psychological perspectives to help explain behaviour.

How are referrals made to the school counsellor?

  • A referral from the school’s learning and support team
  • Parents directly approaching the counsellor. If I am not available you can leave a message with the front office
  • The school’s executive team referring directly to the school counsellor.

In a primary school, the school counsellor will require parent permission when working individually with a child.
