2021

Indyanna De Vries, Sports Captain, Cranbourne Campus

What do you see as your role as a leader?

To me, a leader is someone who puts their team first, leads by example and inspires those around them. It's important to work on the relationships you have within the College community in order to build trust. My role as a College Leader is to make everyone feel as if they have something they can contribute to the team.

What is one of the positives about being a student at St. Peter's College?

One of the positives of being a student at St. Peter’s College is that the environment created by the College community is very diverse and inclusive. You are made to feel as if you are part of one team and therefore have abundant opportunities to show your character strengths. Those around you continue to show a lot of support and encourage you to ‘Be Not Afraid’.

Who is the one person you admire most and why?

The one person I admire the most is Ms Michael. The continuous light she brings, to not only myself but others lives, is something that I am very grateful for and the positivity she has is infectious.

What are your goals as College Captain in 2021?

As a College Captain in 2021, my goals are to ultimately increase the level of participation in all aspects of sport within our school, as well as continuously adapt our ideas to suit that of those within our community. The desire to create an environment that ensures everyone feels welcome and supported to do their very best, regardless of their ability level, to encourage teamwork and mate-ship.

“I can do this through Christ, who gives me strength”. Philippians 4:13

How will you live this statement through your leadership role?

There are always going to be bumps in the road and that is something that is not preventable. Our College theme being “I can do this through Christ, who gives me strength” is something to continuously look back on to remind yourself that persistence is key, as God will always have your back. It gives hope to those that don’t think they have ability to perform well during activities, that with practice and persistence, God will provide you with a positive result.

In one sentence what is the one thing that you would  like to say to your fellow students?

A piece of advice I would give to my peers would be to listen more than you speak. Listen attentively so you can understand and relate. Listen to learn.

What do you see as your role as a leader?

Everyone has their own idea on what their role as a leader is. But to me a leader is someone who walks side by side with the crowd and not in front taking charge, a leader is someone who always listens to their peers and learns from them, a leader is someone who can speak up for the younger year levels. As Sport Captain I aim to follow all these qualities and skills so I can provide my best for the community.

What is one of the positives about being a student at St. Peter's College?

The Community we have at St. Peter’s College is beautiful, walking through the school gates every morning and entering into the school and being apart of the community is an amazing feeling, knowing your are entering into a safe environment and ready to learn new things everyday is something that St. Peter’s College has provided for me throughout my whole schooling here at the College.

Who is the one person you admire most and why?

My parents have been my rock ever since I was born. Anytime I am needing something or struggling with something they are always there to help me. They support and encourage me in anything I do, they push me to be the best person I can be, and always tell me to give it your all when given a new challenge. My parents have shaped me to be the person I am today and I am super thankful for both of them.

What are your goals as College Captain in 2021?

My Goal as Sport Captain is to encourage and try get as much people as I can more involved in the amazing sporting activities we have at our College, this includes swimming carnivals, athletics carnivals, cross country and my personal favorite the SIS Sporting Program, which allows students to compete against other schools in a variety of different sports.

How will you live this statement through your leadership role?

With every decision or choice that I have to make, Christ will be by my side. He will guide me and give me strength to be able to make the right decisions and head in the right direction not just regarding my role as Sport Captain but throughout my life as I continue to grow older and be let out into the world after high school. This statement is very powerful and will be something I look up to for the rest of my life.

In one sentence what is the one thing that you would  like to say to your fellow students?

To enjoy high school to the fullest and make as many memories as you can, because time will fly and the next thing you know you are graduating high school.
