ResourceSmart Schools

We would like to share with you that we have joined the Sustainability Victoria ResourceSmart Schools (RSS) program.

ResourceSmart is a program offered by Sustainability Victoria designed to support Victorian schools to embed sustainability actions and learning across the curriculum, school facilities, and community, while saving resources and money for our school. Simply speaking, schools take action to minimise waste, save energy and water, promote biodiversity and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Most importantly, ResourceSmart Schools provides students the opportunity to learn about sustainability in a real world environment – our beautiful school grounds and community. The ResourceSmart program will complement other programs we use.

ResourceSmart Schools program is one of the longest running environmental education programs in Australia and can boast long standing impacts and achievements over 15 years.

A key point of difference to other sustainability programs is the provision of an experienced and supportive facilitator who delivers staff professional development, provides extensive face to face contact to work through the program checklist, expert curriculum advice, sustainability resources, assessment advice and phone, email and newsletter updates. We also have access to an online portal (ResourceSmart Online), where we will capture all that we do in this field and access a suite of resources created bu other ResourceSmart Schools. The Online Portal provides the framework for our actions.

The program covers the areas of operations (including capturing billing data), curriculum and community links. RSS can choose to work through 5 modules which cover the areas of ‘setting a foundation’ or core module, energy, waste, water and biodiversity. Certificates are provided for each module after successfully navigating through the checklist and meeting benchmarks. As modules are completed, the school can then apply for star certification.

As always, we will continue to provide our community with regular updates on our sustainability work through the school newsletter.
