Indigenous Studies

Last Term Year One and Two students learnt about the importance and significance of an Acknowledgement of Country during Indigenous Studies lessons. 

An Acknowledgement of Country is an opportunity to show respect to the Traditional Owners and their continued connection to the land. 

Somerville Primary is located on Boon Wurrung/Bunurong Country. 

Today’s newsletter includes Year 2K’s Acknowledgement of Country at the beginning of the newsletter. It is also proudly displayed in their classroom. Look out for Acknowledgements of Country from different classes in future newsletters.

We are lucky enough to have Mitch Tambo, a proud Gamilaraay man coming to our school in the last week for term to perform for us. Look out on Sentral for the details. During this incursion, Mitch will speak to our students about his culture and perform music. Mitch Tambo has previously performed on Australia’s Got Talent and was a finalist on this show in 2019.
