Dining Hall News

On the first Wednesday of term the Middle School boarders held a formal dinner. You may remember that last term we were taught dining etiquette by Mrs Teresa McAllister and we have been working on these skills throughout Term Two. The formal dinner was a continuation of this focus. Mrs Freeman helped some students to set the tables and the meal was placed on the table to share. Prior to starting we discussed the etiquette around a shared meal. Chef Nick prepared beautiful steak and vegetables for us to share. The manners were exceptional and we enjoyed the conversation at the tables. We hope to hold this more formal style of having dinner once a term. In future, maybe we could even get dressed up for the occasion.

Did you know that on Thursday and Sunday the Middle School boarders are asked to sit at a table with someone they don’t usually sit with and at least one person from Anchorage and Endeavour? At the beginning of the year this caused many grouches and groans and some people even verbalised it made them feel uncomfortable. We have made great progress and are seeing lots of our boarders making conversation with students they may not necessarily spend time with.

This term we have welcomed Chef James McNeil to the catering staff. James is the son of former Mathematics teacher Mr Alistair McNeil, it is a small world at GSG.
