LITERACY

In Reading, the students will be learning to: 

• Read a variety of mentor texts and identify and analyse the craft techniques and language used by authors (analysing)
• Identify and incorporate new vocabulary into written and spoken language (vocabulary)
• Talk critically about an author’s use of text structures and language features used to enhance the text (critiquing) 
• Express changes in ideas and opinions after reading a text and discuss why and how your thinking has changed (synthesising)

In Writing, the students will be learning to: 

• Identify and name a range of writing craft used in mentor texts and apply them to their own writing
• Experiment with vocabulary, incorporating vocabulary specific to the topic and mode 
• Organise texts using appropriate text structure and features and discuss why these features were chosen and their purpose
