Year 10 Wollangarra Experience
Last week, three teachers and nine students headed off to the upper reaches of the Macalister River to a lovely pioneer homestead, Wollangarra. To get there, we had to cross the river on a flying fox, but once there, we were happily ensconced in the beautiful natural environment of the Victorian High Country. The Wollangarra Programme involves a five day programme. In the middle is a three-day expedition, and for us, this meant using a lovely little bend of the Macalister River as our base camp, and trekking up a mountain to the ‘Heli Pad’ where we were rewarded with some lovely views of the surrounding mountains, including the snow-capped Mt Wellington. Upon return, we welcomed hot showers and on our final night at Wollangarra we enjoyed a beautiful home-grown lamb stew and a dress-up dinner.
Our week away was fabulous, as shown in the comments below:
Nia: “I enjoyed the moments around the fire while we were having good conversations and drinking a cuppa.”
Ted: “I liked making the chocolate cake with Zoe and helping with dinner.”
Ms Frank: “It was such a relaxing and peaceful week. I would highly recommend the experience to all the current Year 9 students.”
Giaan: “I liked the nature; it was really green and different from Alice.”
Rowena: “I loved the flying fox! (And the view from the mountain)”
Mrs Herbert: “I loved how time seemed to slow down in the outdoors. Our campsite beside the Macalister River was the best ever!”
Cushla: “I enjoyed sitting around the campfire next to the Macalister River and people telling stories.”
Elly: “I liked the view, but didn’t like the hiking to get there.”
Ms Momo: “Wollangarra is a stunning slice of paradise.”
Samantha: “I enjoyed the wood splitting.”
Samson: “I liked skipping the rocks by the river, and climbing down the hill.”
Daniela: “I enjoyed being out in nature and being a bit more independent in my learning skills.”
Thanks to everyone involved – what a wonderful experience this was!
