Principal's Message

Dear Families,
On Monday, we will officially mark a significant milestone in the lives of our youngest students...100 days of school! It is an incredibly rewarding achievement of reaching the century - and a credit to the staff and parents of our Prep students who have helped them to settle into a new environment and routine. I’m sure you would all agree that they have achieved great things in their first 100 days, just imagine what they’ll be able to do at the end of Grade 6! Congratulations 2022 Preps!
Welcome Peter Catsourakis
This week we welcomed Mr Peter Catsourakis who will be teaching PE for the remainder of the year. Peter joined the PE classes this week and has started to get to know the children. He has a background in soccer coaching and a great passion for Health and PE. Peter will be with us on Wednesdays, if you see him around, please feel free to introduce yourself.
At present, Mrs Jenny Willmott and I will be covering the STEAM classes until we can find a suitable replacement for Mrs Laura Abed.
Hi everyone , my name is Peter. I have a passion for all things fitness and health and the holistic impact it can have on our lives. This was my main inspiration in becoming a PE teacher. I will be getting married on the 18th of February next year. I have completed a Bachelor in Sports Coaching and a Masters in Secondary Education. I have been coaching soccer for over 12 years and am currently finalising my Advanced A Licence accreditation. I follow Carlton in the AFL and have enjoyed watching them rise up the ladder this year. I am looking forward to contributing to the Holy Saviour community over the coming months and getting to know everyone !. “

Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools - School Improvement Surveys (MACSSIS)
Throughout each year, we pause to listen to our students, families and staff to gauge how our learning community is travelling. This feedback is invaluable to our progress as effective school communities and is backed by evidence-based research and best practices. I invite you to read the following letter which outlines the process for 2022.
Feast of St Mary of the Cross
On Monday we celebrate the Feast of St Mary of the Cross, our first Australian saint. In 1866, as a young teacher in South Australia, Mary and her mentor, Fr Julian Tenison Woods, set in train their pioneering vision: to bring God’s love, learning and healing to children and places where it was lacking. She was a prodigious hard worker who put the needs of others before herself. Her commitment to the schooling of children from poor and rural communities established a model of Catholic education that continues to today. “Remember we are but travellers here” - Mary MacKillop (1873) Mary’s tomb bears these simple words. We read them, and we are reminded that we pass this way but once. Will the world be happier for our having passed through it?
School Tours and 2023 Enrolments
We ask that any parents who have a younger child who turns 5 before 30 April 2023, and are wishing to enrol them into Prep at Holy Saviour for 2023, to please submit an enrolment form to the school office by Friday 27th May. This will assist with our planning and organisation for next year. You can access the forms via this link, or you may collect an enrolment pack from the school office. Once complete, it can be given in or emailed to office@hsvs.catholic.edu.au.
Billboards, Posters, Flyers!
We have some new posters & flyers, and we’d love some more people to help distribute these and/or have them displayed in a prominent position! If you can help, please email office@hsvs.catholic.edu.au and we can get some to you.

Final Thoughts...Wean Your Teen Off The Screen
I wanted to share with you the following article from Clinical Psychologist Andrew Fuller and is titled Wean Your Teen Off The Screen. If your house is anything like mine, post lockdowns the struggle is real trying to wean our kids (& ourselves) off the screen. In the article, Andrew puts forward some common parenting “fails” around screen time, and then goes on to explain his RESOLVE model. It makes for good reading and certainly something I will be trying at home!
Kind regards,
Steve Evans
