INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC

We would like to welcome Jake, Nhan and Andrew to Great Ryrie Primary School. Jake and Andrew will be teaching our guitar and bass guitar students and Nhan will be teaching some of our piano students.

We are so fortunate to be able to offer a comprehensive instrumental music program at GRPS, taught by people who work professionally in the music industry and bring with them a wealth of knowledge and expertise.

Our instrumental staff are:

Vicky - Violin, Cello, Keyboard and Piano

Laura - Voice/Singing

Jake - Guitar and Bass Guitar

Andrew - Guitar and Bass Guitar

Henry - Percussion/Drums

Harrison - Percussion/Drums

Hyun - Piano

Nhan - Piano

Carmen - Brass, Piano and Keyboard

We have also been able to secure the services of an experienced Woodwind teacher (Saxophone, Clarinet, Flute) but would like to boost our enrolments in this area. Woodwind instruments are fun to learn and often the children are able to quickly become competent in these instruments as they align so well with the skills they acquire in the recorder program taught in classroom music lessons. Additionally, many of our feeder secondary schools have extensive band and orchestra programs and beginning a woodwind instrument in primary school would be beneficial to students thinking of pursuing this in secondary school. We have several flutes, saxophones and clarinets available for hire, so children are able to learn these instruments at GRPS without having to outlay hundreds (and sometimes thousands) of dollars for an instrument.

Several students have commenced instrumental lessons this term, with the new staff members being able to offer additional timeslots. If your child has been on the waiting list for lessons and has not yet been allocated a place in the program, please contact Peta.Murray@education.vic.gov.au ASAP, to secure a place for your child.
