Principal's Report

I will be taking Long Service Leave for three weeks starting on the 22nd of August and returning on the 12th of September. I will be heading to the Gold Coast with my family and hopefully relaxing on the beach and next to the pool in warm weather!

If you have any concerns while I am away Leah Hodgson and Kristy Foster will be jointly running the school.

Social Media

Thank you to the many parents that logged into our Cyber Safety Professional Development. At Boronia Heights we believe in providing parents with the most up to date information around our student’s safety when using the internet.

Unfortunately, it has come to my attention that some of our students may be using Tik Tok accounts which reference the school’s name and logo. Boronia Heights Primary School has not given permission for it's name to be associated with these accounts. According to Tik Tok’s terms and conditions, the minimum age for having an account is 13 years. This should mean that very few primary school students are account holders themselves. Please speak with your children and check any accounts that they may have access to and ensure that these accounts are deleted.

I am also concerned that these accounts may be being used by our students in a way which is not consistent with our school values of respect and care for others. We have clear and well communicated policies on bullying and social exclusion and these are explored regularly with the school community.  Families are crucial partners with schools in promoting positive social skills. Please guide and encourage your children to use social media in a way which develops mutual respect and responsibility.

Prep Enrolments for 2023

Over the next week Sharon La Morticella, our enrolment officer, will be emailing a confirmation letter to welcome our new Preps into our school for 2023.  If you haven’t yet enrolled, please contact Sharon in the office as soon as possible please.

BYOD Information Night

Thank you to all our BHPS Year 2 families who logged into our BYOD Information night this week, it was lovely to see so many families joining us. I hope this information night gave you the information that you needed.  Any questions that were not answered on the night will be sent home in the coming weeks. This year we have seen a really productive and well-run BYOD program which we believe has been very beneficial to our students.  Thank you again for your enthusiasm, interest and your attendance.

Three Way Conferences

Pupil Free Day- Tuesday 13th September

For Term 3, 2022, the Department of Education and Training has provided schools with the option to hold each teacher’s allocated professional practice day on the same day for all staff. This is to enable the most effective and efficient use of this day. As a result, we have scheduled our professional practice day for all staff on Tuesday 13th September, allowing our 3 Way Conferences to be held. Students will therefore not be required to attend school on this day. More information will be sent home closer to the date with the instructions for you to book in for your child’s conference.

OSHClub will be open if you need child minding facility, please contact OSCHClub as soon as possible if you require support on the day.

All Bunnings BBQ

Thank you to our community who volunteered to man our Bunnings BBQ at Bayswater on the Sunday 14th August.  Thank you to those families that volunteered, we appreciate the support, time and effort that you have given to the school. A big shout out and huge thank you to ‘DirecFresh’ at 497 Mountain Hwy Bayswater for once again generously donating all of the sausages required for the day. Please, if you can support them as they have supported us that would be fantastic. Our bread has also been generously donated by Baker’s Delight Boronia Junction so please support this bakery for all your bread and yummy treats. A huge thank you to Leia Barratt and our Hubsters for their organisation around this fundraiser. They raised $1975 dollars, an amazing effort especially on such an appalling rainy and cold day.  This money will go towards new playgrounds in the school. A very big thank to our community for an outstanding effort.

Cadbury Chocolate Fundraiser

Thank you to all our families that are doing an amazing job selling the chocolates for our school fundraiser.  This is a major fundraiser for the year, and we are extremely appreciative of your support. Just a reminder that all money must be returned to the school by Friday August 19th.

Grounds

Thank you to Leah Hodgson for the organisation around the plantings of many new trees and plants around the school and to Catherine Devlin for the development of our planting program around the school. The grounds are really beginning to look fantastic.  Our two face to face assemblies, one with Nick Wakeling with the donation of 40 plants, and the other with Alan Tudge with our opening of Jubilee Park, celebrating the planting of trees around the ovals and bench seat with a plaque, have certainly enhanced our grounds.

Maths Challenge Day

Some of our Year 3 students had the opportunity to attend a Maths Challenge Day at Boronia K-12 last week.  The focus of the day was Courage, Creativity and Collaboration, all vital to a deeper understanding of mathematical concepts. Students were challenged with problems and the collaboration and communication that occurred in their groups were crucial in the success of our students. Congratulations to all students who attended and represented our school with pride.

Football Grand Final

Thank you to staff and parents that made me aware of our fantastic results for our boys and girls footy finals last weekend.  The under 12 Girls Basin Bears team were successful and won the Grand Final.  An amazing effort!

The Under 11 and Under 12s boy Basin Bears team also won on the weekend and what a fabulous effort for everyone involved.  It’s great to be out and about and involved in weekend sport finally. I join in with parents and staff being super proud of our students. Seeing them wear their medals and jumpers proudly was a joy in itself.

Have a great weekend
