Performing Arts

Hello everyone and welcome back to Performing Arts in 2020! This year, I am so looking forward to further developing the students' understandings, skills and engagement with Dance and Drama in an engaging and rewarding program.

Foundation

Learning Intention: To understand and implement safe dance practice.

Students will be introduced to a number of songs with actions, which will develop social skills, memory, coordination, comprehension and listening skills.

Year 1

Learning Intention: To understand where and why people dance.

Students will begin to explore when and why people dance. They will draw on knowledge of their own culture and celebrations to compare and contrast their own experiences with others. Students will also explore drama concepts through improvised stories.

Year 2

Learning Intention: To build an awareness of culture to notice ways dance is embedded.

Students will begin to explore the Aboriginal Australian dances and will compare these dances to those which they may have seen or experienced in their own cultures.

Year 3

Learning Intention: To draw connections between emotions, narratives and classical music.

Students will explore the mood and feeling of classical pieces of music, imagining and exploring characters or narratives that may connect.

Year 4

Learning Intention: To explore acting as a persuasive technique.

Students will analyse a range of dramatic advertisements as a form of persuasive narrative. They will look at how drama skills, as well as the content within the advertisement have been used to try to convince us to buy or believe something to be true.

Year 5

Learning Intention: To build understanding of ways conversation and voice techniques can be used to tell a story with embedded emotion.

Students will view a number of examples of dramatised conversations. They will discuss the skills involved to convey a message, to engage their audience and to develop a character.

Year 6

Learning Intention: To understand the depths of voice acting as an artform.

Students will watch examples of voice acting and interviews with voice actors. They will explore the skills they may need as well as the challenges they may incur while trying to put voice to a pre-made video.
