Curriculum News

Literacy
In English this term we will be focusing on improving our comprehension skills, including sequencing events in texts, comparing and contrasting points of view and finding directly stated information. We will be exploring different phonological foci each week, as well as improving our understanding of different aspects of grammar. In Writing, we will be concentrating on writing to retell, with a major focus on Historical recounts.
Numeracy
In Mathematics this term we will be focusing on extending our number knowledge, including place value and multiplication and division. During the term we will also be exploring length and perimeter, ending the term with a unit on Data generation and analysis.
Inquiry
Our Inquiry unit for Term 1 is ‘What’s the Story?”, where we look at the connection Indigenous peoples have to their land and country and how this is shared and celebrated through Dreamtime stories. We will also be exploring how the arrival of the first settlers changed and impacted the Indigenous lifestyle.
Religion
In Religion we will be exploring the connection between our families and the local parish, the Archdiocese and the Papacy. We will be looking at the history of the church and key figures that have helped develop and grow it. We will be reflecting on a sense of belonging to Church or community and plan ways we can contribute. We will also be exploring the role the Bible plays in storytelling and how it is used to pass on the laws of the church.
