TheirCare OSHC

Yarrabah Out of School Hours Care exceeds national standards

TheirCare Yarrabah Out of School Hours Care (OSHC) recently underwent Assessment and Rating and has been rated as Exceeding National Quality Standard under the National Quality Framework. An overall rating of Exceeding NQS is given to services that go above and beyond the requirements of the NQS in at least four of the seven quality areas. The TheirCare OSHC service at Yarrabah School achieved an exceeding rating in six out of the seven quality areas.

The Yarrabah OSHC program has been steadily growing over the past three terms, with well over a third of Yarrabah families enrolled with TheirCare and regularly accessing the after school care and holiday programs.

The strong connections with students, families and the school community were highlighted as strengths of the OSHC program. Educators love working here at Yarrabah School OSHC and value each and every student and family member.

“High quality practice was demonstrated consistently and frequently across the service. The educators demonstrated a practice that was thoughtful, intentional and responsive to the everyday events and the ongoing needs of the children.”

“The service demonstrated a strong respect for the diversity of the community and families attending the service and developed an environment that was inclusive and provided a sense of belonging for all.”

The new OSHC building has been a positive addition to the program providing dedicated spaces for specific activities including a sensory room, art area, quiet zone and student kitchen. The assessor recognized these areas as beneficial for students. “With input from the school and the children’s specialists, environments were set in a manner that supported children’s individual needs.” Support from Yarrabah School staff including teachers, education support staff, specialists and therapists on a daily basis ensures the program is responsive to the needs of our students. “Meaningful engagement with families, the school and other professionals within the community supported educators to provide a program that was considerate and inclusive of each child’s development.”

We are thrilled with the result of the Assessment and Rating at Yarrabah School and commend all involved with the OSHC program. Please contact TheirCare on 0476 004 524 to enquire about your child attending.
