Careers & College Partnership News

YEAR 12 Q & A

The Careers team have been contacting every Year 12 over the past fortnight. From these conversations there have been some common questions raised in relation to: applying for University/TAFE, early offer schemes, SEAS, applying for scholarships as well as applying interstate. These have been answered in the Year 12 group pages but also posted online on the GSSC Careers Facebook page. I’d encourage you to keep an eye out for these.

APPLYING FOR UNIVERSITY COURSES

How do we apply for Uni?

(From the Year 12 Q & A)

You apply for University (& some TAFE courses) via online applications through a Tertiary Admission Centre – the one for Victoria's is called VTAC. Other states have their own (SATAC = SA & NT, QTAC, UAC = NSW & ACT, TISC = WA).

This process starts in August. The Careers Team will assist students through this process step by step (together with the Neighbourhood Leaders and probably the Learning mentor groups)

*The process starts in August (usually – but may be changed due to COVID-19 affecting timelines) and students can apply any time up until December. There are a number of deadlines along the way, as each one passes the cost of the application increases.

TERTIARY ADMISSION CENTRES

State-based Tertiary Admission Centres process course applications on behalf of universities, some TAFE institutes, and some private providers. You can research courses, prerequisites, selection criteria and ATAR profiles for the 2020 intake. Courses for the 2021 intake will be updated mid-year but you can use the archived information as a guide.
