JUNIOR SCHOOL

YEAR 7 NEWS

As the colder weather sets in, our Year 7 students have been getting down to business, completing work tasks and taking the NAPLAN tests this week.

The NAPLAN tests were one of the first in-school activities to include the entire year level and all of our students showed great maturity in organising themselves into our School Hall to do their best across the three days.

We will have another busy fortnight ahead, with the end of the semester approaching.

YEAR 7 CAPTAINS

I was very pleased to be able to award and recognise our 'Year Level Captains' during the previous fortnight.

What was most pleasing was the high number of students who either nominated themselves or were nominated by their teachers as potential leaders of our year level. The nominations in themselves are an achievement and a sure sign of leadership. It is a great reflection of our cohort that we see so many students keen to take on further responsibility at the school.

Students who were not announced as captains are encouraged to show leadership around the school and look for the many more opportunities to lead that will await them in the coming years.

Our  captaincy team this year will comprise of:

Year 7 Captains

Josh Powell and Lilly Smoel

Year 7 Vice Captains

Ryan Fulker and Keira O’Connor

CONGRATULATIONS

Alec Pullen 7.37

Alec was recognised as one of 3 'Secondary School Runners Up' for his participation in the Department of Education 'Bully Stoppers on-line Quiz'.

Bully Stoppers is a program that supports students, parents, teachers and principals in working together to make sure schools are safe and supportive places, where everyone is empowered to help reduce the incidence of bullying in all Victorian schools.

Alec was awarded an iPod Touch for his efforts!

The quiz is still accessible on the Bully Stoppers home page and students, teachers and parents are encouraged to use this as an on-line learning resource.

For more information, see: Bully Stoppers.

YEAR 8 CAMP

This week students from Year 8 attended the annual camp to Angelsea.

The primary purpose of the camp was to allow students to further build on the relationships they forged with their peers in Year  7, 2014 and to meet and make friends with other students in Year 8. There was also a real emphasis on ‘teamwork’, with students involved in many activities requiring teamwork.

A number of Year 8 staff were also in attendance, which gave  the students a chance to better know some of their teachers.

The students enjoyed many wonderful activities including; initiative games, surfing,  movie, goal setting session, swimming,  mountain bike riding, high ropes, ball games, trampolining and much more.

We hope all students had a great time during their 3 day camp at the beach!
