STUDENT LEADER'S NEWS

SCHOOL CAPTAINS

Otis and I were invited to join the School Council meeting, in which we presented issues and initiatives discussed at our previous student captaincy meeting.  The committee showed their support for the topics discussed, and we are eager to implement them in the coming months.

YEAR 12 CAPTAINS

Hard to believe we are almost half way through Term 2 already. It has been great to see everyone working so productively throughout the last couple of weeks.

The 'Year 12 Breakfast' is sill continually running every Friday from 8 am. We look forward to seeing more and more people there each week.

YEAR 11 CAPTAINS

The past two weeks have been very exciting for the students participating in the Presentation Balls.

After three months of preparation, we finally got to showcase our groovy moves in front of our loved ones.  The girls looked absolutely beautiful, as did the boys. I am sure we all had sore cheeks by the end of the night, from all the smiles, laughter and excitement.  It has been a very memorable experience that we will cherish forever.

SCIENCE

Science is everything and everywhere. This week for Environmental Science, Year 12 students participated in a solar energy challenge.

Using a range of different materials, teams had to build an apparatus which traps the sun’s radiant energy. The aim was to heat a litre of water as much as possible within an hour. Students had to identify heat transfer methods and consider designs to conserve maximum energy. Sadly the weather was not in our favour; thanks Melbourne! Nonetheless, students gathered sufficient data to write their practical reports.

VISUAL ARTS

The previous week was very busy for the Arts department, with its involvement in the Grade 6 Information Evening.  Art students were able to present their work and folios for parents and primary school students. The recycled mural was also on display. The night was a good opportunity to invite younger students to develop an interest in the Arts.

We invite all students to participate in Tuesday lunchtime Arts Club.

PERFORMING ARTS

The ‘All Shook Up’ performance seen earlier last week at the Grade 6 Information Evening was a great success. It was a fantastic way to kick off the first production performance for 2015.
