FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Welcome to 2017
Welcome to our new and returning families in 2017. The school year has started smoothly thanks to the work of staff over the holiday break.
Last week, Year 12 students spent 3 days at Deakin University experiencing campus life, lectures, tours, group sessions on study skills, note taking, health and resilience and using the university's impressive facilities. The retreat was a fantastic opportunity for students to build a sense of collegiality and team spirit amongst the group, with a view to encouraging each and every student to support one another throughout their Year 12 journey.
Year 11 students are settling in to the rigours of VCE as are many of our Year 10 students who will study a VCE subject for the first time.
Year 8 and 9 students have returned ready to engage with their learning and our new Year 7 students are being introduced to their new environment in high school.
I welcome parents and guardians to call me, the Assistant Principals, Year Level Heads or Key Learning Area Heads with any questions that may need answering. Our aim is to ensure a positive and productive learning environment for everyone.

Isabella and Loccy will be travelling to the UK in June to compete in the World 8 Ball Championships following their selection into the Australian Junior Team.
Both students travelled to Tasmania over the holidays to compete in the Nationals. Loccy and Isabella had stunning wins in their respective competitions. Isabella is the first female to successfully gain a place in the Under 18 Australian Boys team, a wonderful achievement!
VALE – Samuel Carlaw
It is with great sadness that I inform the school community about the passing of an ex student Samuel Carlaw last week.
We all have very fond memories of Sam who left Lilydale High at the end of 2015 to take up an apprenticeship. I would like to extend our deepest sympathies and support to his family at this most difficult time.
For any members of our community who may be in need of support now or in the future, please contact the school on 9735 5644 or Headspace on 1800 650 890.
