Year 12 Retreat

Last week our new Year 12 students attended a three day retreat at Deakin University. The students experienced campus life, attending lectures, staying in residence halls and using the university’s impressive facilities (including the common room and gym!).

The time away provided them with an opportunity to set goals and develop essential study habits and revision skills, as well as build relationships with their teachers and peers.

The VCE Coordinators were incredibly impressed with the behaviour and attitude of all students on retreat, and know that this time spent will get the students off to a positive and productive start to their most important school year.

Well done to all who attended - we are looking forward to seeing you achieve your goals.

VCAA Examinations

Special Exam Arrangements

Any student who has a medical condition whether physical or mental may be eligible for Special Exam Arrangements.

If you feel your child may qualify, they need to collect the paperwork from the VCE Office. Documentation from a specialist is essential.

Year 12 Jumpers

2017 jumpers are expected to arrive at school towards the middle of February, for those who ordered them last year.

Information will be posted to students about collection details once they arrive.

A second order will be made if there is enough interest.  The final date for this order is Sunday 27 February.

Improved Performance Time (IPT)

This year all VCE students have study periods together on Tuesdays and Thursdays, Periods 5-6 and Friday Period 6.

The aim is to run all SACs, examinations, level assemblies, guest speakers and other activities during this time to minimise class disruption. If there are no relevant activities for your child during this time, they are free to go home to study.  However, students are more than welcome to stay at school and study.

Year 11 Study Skills

All students in Year 11 will be expected to complete Study Skills on Friday 17 March.

The program provides strategies on note taking, time management, recall strategies, exam techniques, organisation and many more.

Students will be provided with a hot dog lunch and are required at normal school times in full school uniform.

The program runs from Periods 1 to 4 and then classes as per normal, Periods 5 and 6. Payment of $30 can made via Compass.

Payment of $30 for Study Skills can be made via Compass by Friday 10 March.

Attendance

It is a requirement at Lilydale High School that students attend all timetabled classes so that teaching and learning opportunities can be maximised.

If students have reached their limit for absences from class there is an opportunity for this time to be redeemed. Students can speak to their Year Level Coordinator to discuss making this time up at lunchtime, during afternoon study periods, or after school.

Towards the end of term, it is imperative that students make up classes they have missed. Furthermore, it is a requirement that students attend Home Group, even if they have study periods, Periods 1 + 2.

Absences on Compass

Any absences from school must be parent/guardian approved – you can do this through a signed note or you can approve your child’s absences via the Parent Approval Button on Compass.

You can also use Compass to view your student’s past absences.

VCE SAC Redemption

Students will not be granted SAC redemption unless they have a medical certificate or it is a school-approved absence. If there are extenuating circumstances please let us know and we will make a decision based on the VCAA guidelines.
