Nihongo News!

Konnichiwa

Did you know that last year some of our Year 6 /7 students entered an art competition?

The Art Speaks Japanese contest is run by the Japan Foundation in Sydney. Students from all over Australia entered the contest and the winners were announced right at the very end of the year. There were so many entries I’m glad I did not have to be one of the judges!!

We also sent our “Koinobori Origami” art in the ‘School Display’ category and managed to gain a special mention in this category. Click on the link below to see some more of our entries and those from across Australia

I’m sure you’ll agree that there are some amazing students from right across Australia sharing their love for Japanese through art. I hope we can enter again this year.

Room 8 Article

In Room 8 we have been working on place value and understanding how numbers work. We have had to be Place Value detectives and work out the answers to real life word problems using numbers in the millions.

We worked with Alison (Ethan's mum)and room 7 to learn how to use sign language to sing the Australian National Anthem and we have been trying to understand what the words of the anthem actually mean.

Miss Jess taught us a Belonging song which we sung at assembly and Mrs Davey has been teaching us about Growth Mindset and believing in ourselves.

Our class have been painting Koi Fish which are Japanese fish. They are a symbol of perseverance and endurance. Koi fish are very intelligent and can be trained to eat out of your hand.

Mrs Messner had us one day as a relief teacher and did some creative "scissor bird" drawings with us.

Professor K has been teaching us about life-cycles and we have been learning about the history of chocolate in HASS lessons.

It is great fun to be in year 3

WOW News

A few weeks ago W.O.W got their hands dirty knocking down walls for the new ‘Mud Kitchen’ for the Junior Primary. From 9-11 W.O.W worked with Simon from Climbing Trees to knock down the bin enclosure to make space for the Mud Kitchen. Firstly, we wrote the risk and benefits of the task at hand. Some of the benefits were: it gave the W.O.W group opportunity of outdoor learning, it also gave us the opportunity to learn new skills. A few of the risk were: getting injuries e.g. hurting yourself with the hammers and bits of brick going into your eyes. Once we finished the risk and benefits and geared up, we started smashing.

Here’s shots of us working and the finished product.

Here’s a message from W.O.W: If you have any old pots and pans please give them to the school. We’ll have a location for where you can put them soon. Thank you!

Hello my name is Jess Lennard.

Jess Lennard

I am in my sixth year of teaching. Prior to joining the West Beach Primary community, I taught at Cowandilla Primary School for five years.

In the short time, I have been at West Beach Primary I have quickly felt welcomed, building friendly and open relationships with staff, students and parents. As an educator, I aspire to make strong connections with my students not only to impact them academically, but emotionally.

In my free time I enjoy keeping active, travelling and learning about different cultures. I recently became a mum to a boy who is already 8 months old!
