Student / Parent / Carer / Teacher Conferences

Thursday 26 March 1 pm – 7:30 pm

Student / Parent / Carer / Teacher Conferences are of great importance for all students and their families as it assists in the establishment of routines and practices that will impact on student performance in the end of semester assessments. Regardless of the Year Level that a student is in, there is strong evidence that clearly shows where a family of a student is actively involved in their education, the student will enjoy greater success in their learning outcomes.

Despite what they might say publicly, all students need to feel the confidence that they are supported both at school and at home.  Where there is a strong partnership between the student, their family and their teachers, a student will be encouraged knowing that those around them are all “on the same page” when it comes to their learning.

All parents want their child to reach their potential, they want them to succeed and enjoy a fulfilling future and therefore they recognise the importance of the students attending and doing well at school.

Student / Parent / Carer / Teacher Conferences are an important part of this process as they permit discussion and feedback on what has been achieved and just as importantly how and where further improvement can be made between now and the final assessments.  Teachers have the role of being the coach and developing a plan for students to achieve. These Conferences are when families can attend and better understand that plan and how it can best be achieved.

Please Note: Students DO NOT ATTEND school on this day for regular classes. Instead they are required to attend the conferences with a parent / carer in FULL SCHOOL UNIFORM.

High Achievers Assembly

On Monday 10 February we were lucky enough to be able to have a few of our High Achievers from the class of 2019 come and speak to our community. This was a great occasion where we celebrated the achievements of those aspiring for great results.  We welcomed back Erwin Diesta, Kendall Garland, Bethany Dodson, Chris Swensen and Damon Towart.

We celebrated the fact that the class of 2019 once again achieved great results across the cohort. Nearly all of our students applying for tertiary places were offered a first round offer from their chosen University.  We also acknowledged our VCAL students will all of them gaining an apprenticeship, traineeship or full time employment. These are great results and we are very proud.

The Dux of the class of 2019 was Erwin Diesta. Erwin was very focused on his academic goals last year and has been rewarded with achieving the highest ATAR of all of the Scoresby Secondary College students.  He scored in the mid 90s ATAR and has accepted a place at The University of Melbourne and will undertake a course in Bio-Medical Science.  Although he was stressed at times, he continued to display a positive attitude and growth mindset.  He was also looking to take on the feedback provided and make the most of every learning opportunity.  His attendance rate was 99.2% for the year.

Kendall Garland also achieved a strong ATAR and is off to Deakin University (Burwood) to undertake a Bachelor Degree in Visual Communication Design.  Kendall applied herself consistently throughout all of her schooling.  She also got involved in extra-curricular activities in the school’s bands and music performances. Kendall’s attendance rate was 99%.

Bethany Dodson had an attendance rate of 100% in 2019 and gave herself the best possible chance of achieving her best. And with such commitment it is not surprising that she received a great ATAR result.  Bethany will also be off to Deakin University where she will be studying to be a teacher.  We look forward to Bethany one day returning to teach the students of the future.

Chris Swensen was a quiet achiever who went about his business. He also had a 100% attendance rate in 2019 and also had ½ a day throughout his VCE years.  He was a hard working student who gave himself every opportunity to do well.  Chris’ passion has been for nursing and he will be off to Federation University to study in this area.  He is working full-time already and fitting in all of his commitments.

Our final high achiever from the class of 2019 that we would like to congratulate is Damon Towart, Damon has been fantastic in his dedication to his studies as well as making the most of the opportunities offered to him at this school. He had an attendance rate of 98.4. He was one of the College Captains last year. He also made the most of the opportunities that Scoresby Secondary College has to offer.  He will be off to study criminology and is looking to join the Police Force in the future.

We wish each of our High Achievers, along with all of the members of the class of 2019, all the best for their future endeavours.  I’m sure what you have learnt during your time at Scoresby Secondary College will hold you in good stead.

Everyday Matters – The Importance of Attendance

We all want our students to receive a great education. The start of a great education starts with students attending school on time every day.

Students who attend school regularly develop good habits that are necessary for success during school and beyond school; whether in the workplace or in further education.

Missing school can have a massive impact on an individual – academically, socially and mentally.  It can affect a student’s ability to achieve success in assessment tasks as well as impact negatively on relationships with other students and can lead to social isolation etc.

Students learn new things at school everyday and everyday they are away they miss important information and can fall behind their peers. For some students the thought of catching up on work and learning can become too difficult.

In 2019, there were 16 students (6% of the school) who attended every school day.  Stude
