Principal's Message

Our MFG community

At the ANZAC ceremony in Geelong I was reminded of the values exemplified in the ANZAC spirt: courage, endurance, mateship and sacrifice. Those are the ones which Australians identify as part of our culture and national spirit.  There are values underpinning those which go right back to the Roman and Greek philosophers and the great religions of the world – particularly values like duty and loyalty and faithfulness and humility.

At the ANZAC ceremony I wondered what the ANZACs would have thought of some of the behaviour that has been paraded in the news of late.  What would they have thought of the cultures that seemed to have developed within some of our most cherished traditional institutions, such as Cricket Australia and our long established and respected financial organisations?  Sadly, the desire for success and winning at all costs seems to have become far too prevalent and accepted in our culture, right across the board.  As much as we talk about the ANZAC spirit, we have to ask what has happened to the values that the ANZACs demonstrated most powerfully. We speak of them, but seem to have forgotten them…

These recent events highlight again the importance of developing the ethical and moral characteristics of our students. All the success in the world, if it is unattended by strong ANZAC style values, will not make you a good person or develop a good society.

We are currently working with our students, staff, parents and carers to develop the traits, values, dispositions and characteristics that we would like to see being developed and demonstrated in our MFG community. These will form the basis for the MFG Way of interacting and learning in our school.

Parent/carer evening: Our MFG Way

Whilst we have already had parent input from College Council, we would like to hold a parent/carer evening to allow some time for other parents to have their input into our MFG Way.

This event will be on: Monday 28 May 2018 in the Main Campus 01.7 – just as you go up the stairs.

Time: 5:30 pm – 6:15 pm

If you can’t make this evening then you can have input via the survey at this link:

We welcome your input into this important work for our school.
