International Students News

Welcome to 2020!

We have been busy learning about school routines, places we visit at school and all the English words for the wide range of stationary and classroom objects we use.

We have been learning how to use English to identify days of the week and months of the year. We were quite surprised with how many different words there are for addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.

We have started to write recounts and we are becoming experts at sequencing pictures to retell a story.

We loved our Life Saving Victoria Excursion to Bonbeach last week. We learnt how to be safe in the water, how to call / signal for help and we had lots of fun playing on the beach and splashing around on the boards. Wearing the lifejackets and linking arms with our friends in the water was also a highlight. We can’t wait for the swimming carnival.

The PLC runs on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. On Thursday and Friday the students are immersed in mainstream English classes where they enjoy Metalwork, Sport, Maths, Reading and Writing.

BONBEACH

On the 12th of February all international students attended, a fun filled excursion to Bonbeach.

Students spent the day learning about how to stay safe in Australian waters. The lifeguards at Bonbeach taught us many important lessons like; always swim between the flags, do not go to the beach alone, and do not swim with people who do not know enough about water safety.

In small groups led by the lifeguards, we played games on the beach, paddled in the sea, and simulated saving someone who is in trouble in the water. What I enjoyed most about the coast, was the jellyfish eggs that washed up on the shore. They looked like soft crystals. It made me realise that the sea is truly magical.

The day spent at Bonbeach was the perfect balance of having fun and learning.
