ACC Cross Country
Last Wednesday 12 September the St Bede’s cross-country team made the trek out to Bundoora to compete in the ACC cross-country championship. After 15 weeks of training, the boys were full of confidence, knowing that they had put in the hard work along the beach at Mentone. However, until the gun goes you never know how you will measure up against the other colleges. Things looked good after our U13 team got off to a great start putting us in second and with this confidence the boys never looked back and all of our teams placed in the top 3. We witnessed some fantastic individual results throughout the day with many boys in the top 10. At the conclusion of the Senior race we were the clear winners with every runner giving it their absolute all. This was a great reward for so many weeks have hard work by the team. Congratulations must go to our Senior team who ensured the win with a great team race and were lead admirably by James Burren and Seb Sossa.

The Senior team were runners-up in the final. A great team effort.
ACC Chess
In the recent ACC Open Chess tournament hosted by Simmonds College our St Bede’s team consisted of seven Year 12s in their final representative competition and two Yr 9s with a bright future in Chess ahead of them. Our 2017 campaign was a huge learning curve and the team were keen to make a more honest showing this year. All players won at least 4 out of 7 two winning 6 out of 7 matches and for a few rounds we were leading the competition. It was very exciting afternoon with the lead changing with each round.
Eventually the competition came down to a countback after the last round and unfortunately we finished up second overall after a countback to the 5th player.
Congratulations to CBC St Kilda the overall winners…we’ll take the second place…in what was an excellent day of competitive chess.
