Vale Steve Walker

Much loved friend of Mount Erin College

Mount Erin College is sad to announce the passing of Baxter Village resident, Steve Walker.  A former teacher, she was instrumental in the development of the relationship between the Village and the College.  After retirement, she threw herself into this relationship and was involved in arranging many programs that benefitted the students of Mount Erin College and the residents of Baxter Village alike.  Steve’s driving force was always her desire to bring together young and old so that each could see the qualities of and value in each other.

Some of Steve’s key achievements include:

  • Being a driving force in the Year 9 Program, which at one time saw the whole of Year 9 visit the village for weekly activities;
  • Enlisting the long term support of numerous Baxter Village residents in the 'Winter Walkers’ Program;
  • The development of a community partnership with Peninsula Health;
  • Initiating a Relay For Life team and morning teas for breast cancer awareness;
  • Membership of the College Board;
  • The first ever non-student recipient of the much sought after college ASPIRE Award;
  • Support of Year 8 Market Day (the biggest spender);
  • Enthusiastic contributor to a host of charity endeavours;
  • Enviable ability to energise people into following her lead.

Stevie was a true and valued friend of Mount Erin College

and she will be very sadly missed.

A message from Karen Lee

We are so saddened at the passing of Steve Walker. Steve has been a fierce advocate for young people and has worked closely with the school to build a wonderful partnership with the residents of the Village Baxter. Steve has worked tirelessly to arrange activities for our students and the residents. We will miss her terribly, but know that she has left a lasting legacy. Sadly, the bridge across Robinsons Rd between the school and village that she envisioned has not yet been built, but we'll continue to work on that. Thank you Steve.
