CAPA T-Shirts 

Anyone involved in CAPA classes or in our co-curricular program is invited to purchase a CAPA T-shirt. These shirts will be worn during rehearsals, performances and on CAPA excursions. Please pay $18 at the front office and bring your receipt to the CAPA staffroom where you can try on sizes and collect your shirt.  

 

YEAR 7 

Year 7 ABORIGINAL LANGUAGES 

 

 This term, students have designed, adapted and produced games that allow others to learn Aboriginal words and phrases. Some of the games have already been successfully used in Kuta Kaya classes. 

 

Year 7 FRENCH  

Students are exploring both practical games and board games as part of their C’est Ma Vie (It is my life) project and learning how to talk about their hobbies, interests and sports. At the beginning of the term all Year 7 language students combined to participate in a project launch where they had the opportunity to play a variety of French and Aboriginal lawn games. 

 

Music 

Year 7 Music are currently studying film music beginning with a Hook Event focused on The Jungle Book. Students will be composing music to use with film. 

 

YEAR 8  

MADD HOOK EVENT 

All students in Year 8 have the exciting opportunity to select a full day workshop in either Dance, Drama, Vocal, Guitar, Rock band or Art. This workshop will allow students to develop their passions while working on a project that they will share at the end of the day. The workshop will also be preparing them for their next project on film. This workshop will occur in Week 10 of Term 2 and we look forward to the amazing things Year 8 create.  Year 8 are reminded to submit their preferences on the quiz on their Canvas page. 

 

Visual Arts 

In Visual Arts, Year 8 have been working on a mix media artwork using elements of the environment. They have been experimenting with different art forms including ink bleeds, leaf printing, fluid art textured printing to create their works.  

 

 

YEAR 9 - Term 2 

Dance  – Focus on World of Dance exploring different traditional and contemporary dance styles performed across the globe. 

 

Drama  – Focus is on Melodrama and the ability to be outrageous and hilarious characters. 

 

Music  - Focus is on music of culture beginning with traditional Chinese music and moving towards picking their own culture to research. 

 

Visual Arts - Focus in on portraiture and different mediums to create them.  

 

YEAR 10 - Term 2 

Dance- Focus is on Site-Specific Dance and the characteristics and features of a specific site and what that means for Dance Composition. 

 

Music- Focus is on Australian music through listening and performing. 

 

Visual Arts- Focus is on still life through 3D mediums including ceramics.  

 

YEAR 11 – Term 2 

 

Music- Focus is on notating music and composition. 

 

Visual Arts- Focus is on the human figure in 2D and 3D form.

 

Entertainment- Focus is on lighting design and completing work experience. 

 

YEAR 12 

Year 12 Dance, Art & Music students are preparing for their trial exams at the start of Term 2. They have been working diligently on getting their performances and major works ready for this. Students have the opportunity in the school holidays to participate in workshops with their teachers. Times and dates will be released soon.  

 

CO-CURRICULAR 

STARSTRUCK 

 

16 students from Years 7-10 are representing KKHS at Starstruck- Rise Up.  They performed at such a high level during rehearsals that they have been selected as the leaders in their item in Cast A.  

  

Talent Development Project 

This term high potential Dance, Drama and Vocal students have been selected to participate in a full day workshop during Week 8 or 10. These selected students have the opportunity to develop their skills and work on a project that will lead to a performance later in the year. We look forward to seeing what they create. 

 

Aboriginal Dance Ensemble  

This term a number of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders students and Non-Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders students have participated in a Dance workshop to celebrate Reconciliation week. The students worked well and produced a Dance performance for the Reconciliation Assembly.  

 

Co-Curricular Lunchtime groups 

Our lunchtime groups have all been working hard on creating performances or artworks this term. Students will be showcasing their talents next term and should be incredibly proud of what they have achieved. A reminder to everyone that these groups welcome all year groups and all experience levels.

EXCURSIONS 

 

FROZEN 

 

50 Stage 4 students attended an excursion down to Sydney to see Frozen the Musical. They also attended an Art Workshop in the Botanical Gardens, viewed art at the Museum of Contemporary Art, completed a scavenger hunt around the city and shopped at Patty’s Markets. The rain held off for most of the day and students walked over 14km seeing the sights of the city before watching the incredible and magical performance of Frozen.

  

Come From Away 

20 students from Years 7-10 will be venturing down to see the moving musical Come From Away next week. They will also be participating in a film workshop followed by a senior performance at Newtown High School of the Performing Arts. We all look forward to seeing their film skills shine and hearing about how the performances went.  

 

High School Musical 

Year 10 Dance students will head to Newcastle in Week 10 to film their Site-Specific compositions they have been working on in class. They will also attend a performance of High School Musical at the Civic Theatre. This excursion will be great for them to extend their composition, appreciation and performance skills outside of the classroom. 

 

Art Express 

Year 11 and 12 Art Students were fortunate to go to Art Express and see outstanding HSC artworks that were touring around the state. Through this, students learnt how their own major works could be enhanced and gained valuable understanding of how to shape and make meaning artisically.  

 

HSPA Dance 

Year 12 Dance students attended a HSC Dance workshop day at Hunter School of the Performing Arts with experienced HSC Dance examiner, marker and teacher Jo Thorn. The students were extremely exhausted after a day of intense learning but gained a lot in preparation for their Trial HSC Exams. Thanks to Jo for her time.
