Years 7 & 10 - Ms Somerville

Year 7 have continued their success in HUB learning and it’s great to see how many are coming each day ready for learning. This term has seen students complete a range of tasks where they have gone into the Science labs to learn how to work scientifically and be out in the playground to create different drum beats while continuing to develop and refine their core skills in literacy and numeracy. While doing assessments this term, Year 7 have been developing their skills by using the Peer Critique process. This is where students are given a sample response to work through with their teachers to annotate, discuss and identify how the elements of the example meets the criteria. We have found this process to be very effective in guiding students to refine their work and achieve at a higher standard. Year 7 have also had the experience of going on excursions to increase their awareness of the world around them and see first hand the things they have been exploring in class.

It is also an exciting time for Year 10 as we start the process to explore the subjects they can study next year in Year 11.

Students will be trying out different courses early in Term 3 before making their decisions but can always ask their teachers or speak to the Career’s Advisor for advice in preparing to select courses for their pattern of study. Year 10 should also be using their time wisely by making sure that they have completed and submitted assessment tasks to ensure they are on track for their RoSA. If you have any questions regarding this or would like to access some support in helping catching up the work, please contact classroom teacher.

Year 12 are now more than half way through their courses and are preparing for the Trial Higher School Certificate examinations which begin on Monday 12th July. Again, this year they will be held at the TAFE to take advantage of the peace and quiet and many teachers are already planning to run Masterclasses during the holidays to revisit examination skills and to prepare students by completing practice responses. Please keep your eye out for more information regarding this – while a timetable will be published on Facebook, students will also have specific information from their classroom teachers. Once the Trial examinations are finished, it is important that all HSC students remember that many subjects have not finished and some courses still have assessment tasks to complete. With this in mind we expect to have every student in every lesson through Term 3.

Term 2 has been a busy term for everyone – excursions, project launches, assessments, reporting and there is even more on the horizon as we move into Term 3 so rest up and enjoy the holidays.
