Danish company Maersk has made some ocean-breaking news for the environment this Monday- they are bringing forward the worlds’ first carbon-neutral marine liner. In a press conference, CEO Søren Skou announced that their boat will be entering the waters as soon as 2023. “Our ambition to have a carbon neutral fleet by 2050 was a moonshot when we announced it in 2018,” Skou said. “Today we see it as a challenging, yet achievable target to reach.” The boat is powered by ethanol (a mix of e-methanol and bio-methanol). As of 2019, the number of containers travelling the sea was 5,269. Imagine the impact this could have on the animals and the future if all of them followed in Maersk’s footsteps!

The Mothers and Sons program, a program founded by the International Women’s Day Illawarra Committee is a unique initiative involving young boys and their mums. This unique program aims to stop domestic violence in its early stages, boyhood, by helping young boys manage their emotions in a healthy way. The program was launched in Queensland in 2016, where many incidents of domestic violence have been perpetrated by children aged between 10-18 years old. The program instils a sense of healthy masculinity in these young boys, and has been said to strengthen the relationships between mothers and sons that participate.  Currently, there is an overwhelming demand for the program, with a waiting list for a related program that teaches mothers how to offer their sons the support they need.

“We are not broken things, neither of us. We are cracked pottery mended with laquer and flakes of gold, whole as we are, complete unto each other. Complete and worthy and so very loved.”
