Co-curricular Programs

We have so many excellent co-curricular programs and opportunities it is important to celebrate them all. The Leaders of each program will highlight key activities, events and successes throughout the year and at times they are also celebrated in this section of the newsletter. Our programs include dance, instrumental music, choir, ensembles, band, AAF cadets, aerobics, sport, philanthropy and rowing. We encourage all students to get involved.

MGC Sport

MGC had a very successful day at the Division swimming last week. Our amazing students only lost a total of 4 races across all events. All MGC relays finished in first place and there were some amazing individual results by our students. Congratulations to Lucy Crouch, Manon Shaw, Charlie Millard, Natasha Lowe, Ciara Walsh and Chantelle Campbell who all won 3 races or more for the day. A huge thank you to Kyle Monaghan for organising for his work to enable our teams to go out and compete. We look forward to hearing how they progress in the next round.

MGC also competed in Year 8, intermediate and Senior sports days. Our intermediate and Year 8 students had some great wins and have advanced to the Regional event. Our Year 8 teams also advanced in softball, tennis, cricket and volleyball. Congratulations to all students who participated.

Another great week at Rowing State Championships at Nagambie. MGC achieved some awesome results with 2x gold medals and 3x silver medals.

Year 12 Class of 2020 morning tea

On Friday 26th February 130 students from the Year 12 class of 2020 were welcomed back to MGC for a special morning tea. Students received their official VCE certificate and enjoyed the opportunity to catch up with friends and their teachers. Thank you to all the teachers who came along to the morning tea.

International Women’s day breakfast

On Tuesday 10th March, 9 students from our Senior Executive accompanied by Ella McDonald attended a breakfast at the Grand Hyatt to celebrate International Women’s Day. The guest speaker for the breakfast was Amy Brown, who is an Author and teacher. Amy spoke about empowerment, believing in who you are and following your own path which are important messages for our Students. Thank you to Ella for organizing such as great activity for our student leaders.

Student Leadership

Over the last few weeks our 2021 Student Executive Leaders have received their leadership badges and been inducted into their role at Year Level Assemblies. It is a privilege to be a leader at the College and I know all student leaders will be great role models and represent our College proudly. I look forward to working with the Executive lead by our College Captains, Campbell Perkins, Ruby Upfield and Jade Leung.

Pedal Cinema Event

On Friday 26th February, MGC held the annual Pedal Cinema event. It was a fantastic night even though it needed to look a little different due to COVID-19 restrictions. We were so fortunate with the weather and grateful to receive a grant from the City of Yarra which allowed the school to provide free tickets.

Congratulations to all the students who performed on the night and our Sustainability captains for all their work in organising the event. It was great to see so many students and their families peddling away on a bike to help generate electricity so we could run the movie. Thank you to Andrew Vance and his team for organising an amazing event for our community and continuing to promote a sustainable future. A big thank you to all the MGC staff and students who supported the event.

Finally, I would like to congratulate Rachel Robertson on her appointment to the Acting Assistant Principal position (Year 7 & 8). Rachel will replace Brent Houghton in the role for the remainder of 2021. We are very excited to have Rachel as part of the team.
