Canons Sport

ACC Junior Basketball

Specialised Basketball teams recently competed in the ACC Junior Basketball Championships. The Junior Girls & Boys travelled to Warwick Stadium with sights on the competition. The anticipated tournament developed plenty of excitement because for some students it was their first time representing the College in an ACC competition.

The girls had an exceptional start to the day running away with a win in the first game of the day. Their biggest competition came in the second game of the day where the girls had a see-saw competition for the lead. The game went down to the wire with Aranmore scoring in the final moments to secure the victory. To the girls credit they learnt from the loss and continued to improve and win the remaining games left in the day.

The boys had an excellent start to the day against the International School where the boys played with great energy which ignited their offense. The following games against were challenging competition which tested the boys. However, the boys answered the challenge and elevated their game unfortunately for one of the games the Canons run out of time against Clontarf. Clontarf played exceptionally well to defeat the Canons in their only loss by 4 points.

Congratulations goes to all students involved in the tournament, unfortunately the girls finished second and won’t advance to the ACC Championship Finals bracket. The boys finished first by percentage and advance to the ACC Championship Finals bracket where they will compete in a knockout competition next term.

ACC Senior Basketball

The Specialised Basketball program has teams currently competing in the ACC Senior Basketball Championships. The girls travelled to Warwick Stadium last week for a one-day carnival. The girls held the Championship Trophy in 2019 and last year due weren’t able to retain the trophy being knocked out in round 2 of the finals. This year with a full squad had their sights on the 2021 Championship. The girls dominated the competition all day and were exceptional in their display of skill and teamwork throughout the day.

In the boy’s division they are competing in a weekly competition at the moment. The boys are currently 3-0 and have all bought in to the team values. The current result is the best result by a St Norbert College Senior Boys since the ACC has introduced its competition and it is clear by the brand of basketball the boys are playing. A lot of teamwork, high level of skill is contributing factors to the success of the Canons.

The boys will look to make it 4 wins in a row on Tuesday 16 March @ St Norbert College. Game time will be about 4pm.
