Tenielle Jakins- 9D
Tenielle is a new Year 9 student who has just transferred to the College from Nagle, she has settled in really well and her favourite thing about the College is how supported she has felt since her arrival. Tenielle has lived in East Gippsland since she was 5 years old and loves the ocean, going jet skiing and riding motorbikes.
School has never been Tenielle’s favourite place to be but when pressed about her favourite subject she said “Art’s alright.”
Here’s an acrostic poem to give you a better idea about me:
Terrifically terrible
Enthusiastic
Naturally funny
Interested in making new friends
Encouraging of others
Loves doritos
Loud is how my family would describe me
Energetic all the time… just not in the morning!
Hi, my name is Charlotte Collier. I’m in Year 9 and I was asked to inform you of the fabulous Drama program we have at Bairnsdale Secondary College. I chose Drama as an elective for Year 9 and I have not regretted it. I joined for two main reasons, because I’m dramatic and to meet fun, like-minded people. Well I have certainly found some fun people! The class I’m in has a mixture of Year 9 and Year 10 students. We do improv, script reads, slapstick and productions. This is a fun subject that I would recommend to people who are interested.
Hi, my name is Madison Flynn, but I prefer Maddy. I’m in 8D and am going to be a regular contributor to the 8/9 newsletter page. My first piece will be about what is happening in Year 8 English.
In English we have been looking at the topic the hero’s journey. Over two weeks we have been creating a variety of pieces to make a portfolio of our work. This portfolio consists of three pieces, two written and one creative. Read a short snippet of one of my pieces below:
People think I’m a hero, but they have no idea. They don’t know the whole story; they don’t understand the situation I was in. This is my confession.
It was a summers afternoon. The sun was blazing down, leaving the air hot and sticky. My clothes were clinging to my sweaty skin. I was at the gates of the local pool. They creaked open and I was faced with utmost chaos. Children were running, laughing, and screaming. The grass scattered with colourful towels and mums lathering on sunscreen.
The water was packed but I had spied an empty lane at the far end of the pool. Dodging children and splashes of water I crossed the grass. The lifeguards were busy talking and halfheartedly watching the swimmers.
Peeling off my clothes and dumping my bags I dived into the pool. I began to swim laps. Back and forth until I rammed into a kid. Briefly disturbed from my laps I continued to swim freestyle. Eight, nine laps ten… suddenly I felt a tug on my left leg. I felt my face submerge underwater, for brief moments. What was pulling my leg? I tried to swim upwards but whatever was on my leg was a dead weight.
