Lake Tyers Canoe Day

For the first time in a year, Bairnsdale Secondary College canoes were launched into the water! It was great to have the Outdoor Ed program back - at its core. The program is provided because students find stimulation, wellbeing and happiness from doing adventure activities and enjoying the outdoors. It also helps students develop physically, intellectually and emotionally, whilst doing activities that they might not usually do. The outdoor environment is suited to meeting student needs for all types of learning, and builds on their firsthand experiences.

Lake Tyers was the perfect venue for such an adventure. Students were given an opportunity to learn about the area, the activity of canoeing and learnt how to prepare for the day. These lessons were applied, and despite a strong westerly wind, students were able to travel to the beach where the Lake is expected to break through to the ocean later this year, then up towards Mill Point.

On return to the boat ramp the wind strengthened, holding some students from their desired course, this created a much harder challenge - but Alli, Noah and Jett pushed themselves and were able to get back to the ramp, with a strong appreciation of what they are capable of.

Tambo House takes the win at the Bairnsdale Secondary College swimming carnival

Bairnsdale Secondary College had their Swimming Sport Carnival on the 25th of February at the Bairnsdale Outdoor Pool. The day started with the very popular staff versus student relay.  The students put up a tremendous fight, but a very competitive staff team proved too hard to beat. It was great to see large numbers of students participating in the mainstream and novelty events.  Well done to all students who participated. Our College values of Respect, Responsibility and Resilience were on display throughout the day. Congratulations to Tambo House for taking out the win and becoming house champion on the day.

Year 10 Legal Studies

Tim Bull MP member for Gippsland East visited the College to speak with the Year 10 Legal Studies class about ‘how laws are made’ and his role as a politician in that process.

Students asked Tim lots of questions. One of the questions was if he has been asked to vote on any controversial laws. Students were really interested to find out how many hours Tim works and if he ever gets a break.
