An innovative initiative to engage VET Building and Construction Students
In the trade there is a saying “you are only as useful as the tools you carry” so, in an attempt to have the VET Building and Construction students be as useful as possible when they go out on work experience, we have begun a new toolbox initiative in 2021. St. Peter’s College have teamed up with Cranbourne Bunnings to offer all VET B&C students a heavily discounted tool kit loaded with basic hand tools used in carpentry. Opening the tool box has been like an early Christmas for the students and they were very impressed with the tools inside. The first project had them don the toolbelt and load it up with hand tools required for the construction. Using their own tools establishes good understanding and familiarity with them. The kit is setting the students up for success when going on work experience and also gives them a head start when they leave school and look to start working in a trade. Cranbourne Bunnings were very accommodating and helpful whilst setting up the kits and have donated a full kit for a lucky student to win at the end of the year. The students will be working towards this throughout the year. Now the students will have more chances to be as engaged as possible in their practical learning.
