Ignatius Chess Competition

Mr Terry Quain, Head of Ignatius House

The annual Ignatius Chess Competition took place during the lunch breaks of Week 2. A wonderful turnout once again with lively chess action across three age groups. Mitchell McCormick (Harold) edged out a valiant Leonardo Duarte Schmidt (Gilroy) in the Year 7-8 Championship. An Apelt-Mead rivalry saw Alex (Ridley) take points from Ben (Harold) in the Year 9-10 competition.

A big final day of competition started with a tie in the Year 11 Final, meaning a fast-paced rematch in Break 2: The not-so-silent swarm lapped up the extra chance for some more chess action and were more than happy to give James Moore (Gilroy) and Will Armstrong (Foley) some dubious and unsolicited advice! (All part of the fun!)

In the end, it was James Moore taking out the Year 11 Championship match for the Gilroy Giants.

Huge congratulations to Harold and Gilroy Houses as joint winners of the Ignatius Chess Competition!
