Principal's message

REFLECTION:

Luke 17:11-19

As he was entering a village, ten lepers met Jesus.

They stood at a distance from him and raised their voices, saying, "Jesus, Master! Have pity on us!"

And when he saw them, he said, "Go show yourselves to the priests."

As they were going they were cleansed and one of them, realizing he had been healed, returned, glorifying God in a loud voice; and he fell at the feet of Jesus and thanked him. He was a Samaritan.

Jesus said in reply, "Ten were cleansed, were they not? Where are the other nine? Has none but this foreigner returned to give thanks to God?"

Then he said to him, "Stand up and go; your faith has saved you."

All 10 of the lepers were given the gift of healing, but in his gratitude to God for this gift, the Samaritan found salvation. Our salvation is found in recognising the gifts we have been given and being grateful for what God has given us.

What are you grateful for today?

Dear Parents and Friends,

Welcome to Term 4!

We hope everyone had a happy and safe holiday. Our children are all back at school and ready for a great term.  It will be our Grade 6 student's last term at Primary School, and we hope they enjoy their last weeks of learning at St. Bernard's.

HATS!

We remind children to wear their school hats at all times when outdoors in Term 4. If children forget their hats then they play under the amphitheater.  Please label hats clearly!

New Basketball Court  Cover

Many of you may have had the opportunity to view our new cover over the basketball court. Whilst the building works are finished, the final touches need to be completed before the temp fencing is taken away. This involves connecting to the storm water, asphalting and remarking the lines on the court.

We are very pleased with the cover over the court!  It will provide shade during the hotter months and protection in the winter months for our children, as well as being a great outdoor facility.

Fundraising events over the past few years have contributed funds to pay for the cover.  Events such as the Fun Run, Art & Photography Show (which is coming up again next month), food days and beanie sales have all supported the building of the cover.  Moving forward, the monies raised from this year's Art & Photography Show and next year's fundraising will continue to contribute to the cover.

We thank all families who have been a part of all our fundraising events. Your children are the direct recipients of your efforts and we look forward to your continued support.

Sacrament of Reconciliation

We remind all children in Grade Three, that the sacramental program for Reconciliation begins this week. It will be led at school by myself.  Please return your enrolment form if you wish your child to receive the sacrament.  Children need to be baptised to be able to take part in this sacrament.

Staffing Update

At the end of the year we will say farewell to two of our current staff members:

Mrs. Jill Lewis, our Visual Arts teacher, has accepted a position in Galen Catholic College’s Arts Department. Whilst we will miss Jill and her wonderful talent at our school, we know that her skills will be greatly appreciated at Galen.

Ms. Louise Anthony, our Grade 5/6 teacher, will leave us at the end of the year, after her 12 month role at our school. Louise will return to her position at Wang Primary School. We have really enjoyed working with Louise this year.

We will farewell these staff members at the end of the year.

We recently held interviews for new teaching staff in 2023:

We will welcome Ms. Tania Sutherland to the role of Visual Arts teacher, next year. Tania has specialist training in the teaching of Visual Arts. Tania will also take on the role of literacy support. We welcome Tania from Wang Primary School.

We welcome Ms. Courtney Shannon, who recently completed her studies through the University of Tasmania. Courtney is well-known to our staff and the Grade 3/4 Unit, as she completed a teaching placement with us earlier this year.

We welcome Ms. Rebecca Whale, who recently completed her Master of Primary Education studies through the Australian Catholic University in Melbourne. Rebecca is well-known to our staff and the Foundation Unit, as she recently completed a teaching placement with us this year.

We look forward to these teachers joining our staff in 2023!

Swimming Program 2022

All students will be taking part in our swimming program during term Four.

This is an important part of our Physical Education Program, and includes a focus on water safety as well as learning swimming skills.

The Foundation and Grade 1/2 students will be attending the program over the next 2 weeks, while our older students will attend later in the term.

I thank all the parents who have offered their assistance with the supervision of students during the program.

St. Bernard's 10th Art & Photography Show

We are looking forward to celebrating our Art & Photography Show this term, which will be held on the weekend of 11th - 13th of November!

The show will be open over the weekend for everyone in our community to pop in for a look. There is a $5.00 entry fee over the weekend.

We are looking for helpers to run this important fundraising event!

We will be requesting assistance with the running of the show - more information will be coming out next week - stay tuned!

Have a great week!
