Term 4 is off to a long and busy start with student library classes across years Prep- 9 during this time, again providing engaging activities to promote student motivation in this final term. The library team continues to deliver new and exciting resources soon to hit shelves, with a range of fiction and non-fiction books coming soon. In addition to this, the final steps to organise senior fiction into genres will continue throughout term 4. This concept has become a vital element in student borrowing, while it not only assists students in selecting ‘just right books’, but also assists them to find resources. We encourage students to get involved with Book Club and the Star Reader program throughout this term.
The library now distributes book club newsletters to students and staff. If you have any questions regarding anything ‘book club’, we will be more than happy to assist you.
FYI: Current book club orders are due to be returned by Thursday the 20th of October
Term 4 has seen Prep-2 enjoy weekly Storytime again within the library. Teachers choose from a selection of literacy rich books on display to read to their students, with some engaging conversations following on.
The library has been supporting students in years 3-6 to participate in their classroom book circles, where a small group of students study a just right text within a group setting.
Students in years 7-12 visit the library fortnightly during their English and Humanities classes. The library continues to encourage cross age discussions and engagement in reading at the senior level in a variety of ways. These include book recommendations and ‘what's new on the shelves,’ along with using the eBook library if an item is not in stock. In addition to this, remember students may borrow textbooks from the library. Currently, over two hundred book listed resources are out on loan to students in years 7-12.
The Star Reader Award Program pays recognition to a couple of students each term, which highlight outstanding reading and commitment to their learning. Get involved by demonstrating your love of reading, pick some new and different books, and ask the library team if you need some guidance when selecting your next book. You could be the next Star Reader!
Christmas is coming, and the countdown to the most wonderful time of the year begins. The library team is brainstorming some new and exciting Christmas projects to enter the library very soon. Keep your eye out.
Countdown: 10 more weeks to go!
Have fun reading, It’s one of the most marvelous adventures you can have.
